CORRESPONDENCE: (a) Communication from Stephen Gallagher, Attorney, dated
March 31, 1958 was submitted and read (copies were furnished each Councilman)~
Mr. Gallagher~ on behalf of his client, the LoAo~Kern 0[1 Company, submitted an
offer to lease City owned property containing approximately seven acres~ located
southerly of the west end of the Anaheim~Olive Road bridge°
Councilman Coons moved that the City Council not consider leasing the
City owned property at this time° Councilman Wisser seconded the motion° MOTION

VARIANCE NO, 878: Submitted by the Aljon Company and granted by the City Planning
Commission~ pursuant to their Resolution No. 136, Series 1957-58, allowing the

construction of a motel on property located on the north side of Katella Avenue
immediately east of the Clock Restaurant, subject to the following conditions:
1. The erection of the building in accordance with the plans presented.
2. The deeding to the City of Anaheim of 60 feet from the centerline
of Katella Avenue if this has not been done.
3. Any building line set-back to be a minimum of 20 feet.
4. Engineering requirements.
A gentleman representing the Aljon Company, addressed the Council re-
questing clarification of Conditions Noo 1 and No. 3. That according to the
building code, a porte-cochere was part of a building, and that the porte-cochere
presently under construction will be within one foot of the property line.
Plans of the development, which are a part of the Variance, were again
reviewed by the City Council and further discussion held.
Due to an apparent ambiguity and mistake in the stipulations of the
Variance, and further due to the fact that the porte-cochere will be partially
in keeping with the existing conditions of Variance, Councilman Coons moved that
waiver be granted of the 20 foot set-back requirements as far as the porte-cochere
only. Councilman Schutte seconded the motion. ~OTiON CARRIED.
TRANSFER OF FUNDS: (a)o Transfer of $988.72 from the Contingency Fund to
Account Noo 209 (City Clerk) was authorized on the recommendations of the
Administrative Officer, on .motion by Councilman Wisser, seconded by Councilman
Schutte. ~OTION CARRIED.
(b). Transfer of $1,860.00 from the Contingency Fund to
Account No. 301 (Police Department) was authorized on the recommendations of the
Administrative Officer, on motion by Councilman Wisser, seconded by Councilman
Schutte. MOTION CARRIED.
BEV~RAC~ APPLICATIONS: The Administrative Officer reported on notice of application
for new on-sale general license at 8931Brookhurst Avenue (County Territory), this
location being directly across from private school ~'Little Red School".
No further action was taken by the City Council.
LIBRARY APPOINT~NT: Mayor Pearson reappointed Mr. Harold Kohn member of the
Library Board of Trustees for the ensuing term.
Said appointment was ratified by the City Council on motion by Councilman
Schutte, seconded by Councilman Wisser. MOTION CARRIED.
RECLASSIFICATION NO. F-~7-58-38: Submitted by Huntington Development Corporation,
requesting R-3 zoning on certain lots within Tract Nc. 13~3.
Due to failure to publish required notice of public hearing within the
time limit specified by law, Councilman Schutte moved said public hearing on
Reclassification No. F-~7-58-38 be ~e-schedu~Qd to May 1, 19~8~ 7:00 P.M. Council-
man Fry seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
VARIANCE NO. 942: Submitted by Dan Cobb, requesting permission to split a lot into
two lots, being 65 feet by 135 feet, and 80 feet by 135 feet, property located at
3210 Teranimar Street.
The City Planning Commission, pursuant to their Resolution No. 218, Series
1957-58, granted said Variance, subject to the following conditions:
1. The deeding of 25 feet to the City of Anaheim along Western Avenue
for street widening.
2. The installation of all improvements along Western Avenue as requimd
by the City Engineer.
3. The payment of $25.00 per lot for the acquisition of Park and Recreation
Sites.

Municipal Election held in the City of Anaheim, April 8, 19580
For the purpose of conducting canvass of precinct returns and
absent voter ballots, the Canvassing Board was appointed by the Mayor, as
follows:

The Canvassing Board compared the semi-official returns filed in the
office of the City Clerk with the tally list of each precinct, and at the

I FURTHHR CERTIFY that pursuant to Section 590201 of the Election Code
of the State of California, before the day of election~ comparison was made of
each signature on each application for Absent Voter's Ballot with the signature
upon the original affidavit of registration, and comparison was made of the
place of residence as given in the application with that in the affidavit of
registration on. file in the office of the County Clerk of the County of Orange,
State of California, and
I FURTHER CERTIFY, that it appears that each signature on each ap-
plication is that of the person who signed the original affidavit of registration,
and that the place of residence as shown thereon is in the same precinct as
appears on said affidavit~ and thereupon an Absent Voter's Ballot was furnished
to each applicant therefore.

The Board compared each signature on the identification envelope of
the absent voter's ballot with the signature appearing on the application for
sa~d ballot~
As each envelope was compared and the name thereon audibly announced
and no challenge interposed, the envelope was thereupon opened and the number
removed from the ballot and destroyed, and the ballot deposited in a locked
ballot box, which had previously been inspected by the Canvassing Board in
the presence of bystanders°
After all identification envelopes had been so examined, and the
ballots removed from the envelopes and placed in the ballot box, the ballot
box was thereupon thoroughly shaken and 'the ballots removed one at a time
and tabulated by the Canvassing Board and the final results declared.
Said canvass was conducted openly at a public meeting and in the presence
of bystanders.
Upon the completion of said canvass, the City Council thereupon adopted
the following Resolution°
RESOLUTION NO, 4458: Councilman Coons offered Resolution No. 4458 and moved
for its passage and adoption.
