CITY ATTORNEY: PresZon Turner° Mayor Pearson called the meeting to order for the purpose of canvassing the precinct returns and absent voter's ballots of the General Municipal Election held in the City of Anaheim, April 8, 1958o For the purpose of conducting canvass of precinct returns and absent voter ballots, the Canvassing Board was appointed by the Mayor, as follows: Councilman Coons, Inspector° Councilman Pearson, 3udge~ Councilman Schutte, Clerk. Councilman Fry, Clerk. The Canvassing Board compared the semi-official returns filed in the office of the City Clerk with the tally list of each precinct, and at the conclusion, compared the results of the votes cast at the polls° The Board then proceeded to canvass the Absent VoterVs Ballots. The following certification of the City Clerk relative to applications for absent voter's ballots was subm~tted and read by the Clerk: CERTIFICATION OF THE CITY CLERK I, DENE M. WILLIAMS, City Clerk of the City of Anaheim hereby certify that pursuant to Section 5902 of the Election Code of the State of California, 2612 City Hall~ Anaheim~ California~ April 15~ 1958 - 7:00 P.Mo fifty-nine (59) applications for Absent Voter's Ballots were received in the office of the City Clerk for the General ~unicipal Election to be ehld Tuesday, April 87 19587 and I FURTHER CERTIFY that pursuant to Section 5902ol of the Election Code of the State of California, before the day of election, comparison was made of each signature on each application for Absent Voter's Ballot with the signature upon the original affidavit of registration, and comparison was made of the place of resi. dence as given in the application with that in the affidavit of registration on file in the office of the County Clerk of the County of Orange, State of California, and I FURTHER CERTIFY, that it appears that each signature on each ap- plication Js that of the person who signed the original affidavit of registration, and that the place of residence as shown thereon is in the same precinct as appears or: said affidavit, and thereupon an Absent Voter's Ballot was furnished to each applicant therefore. Williams CITY CLERK OF IH5 CITY OF ANAHEIM The Eoard compared each signature on the ~dentification envelope of the absent voter'~s ballot with the signature appearing on the application for said ballot~ As each envelope was compared and the name thereon audibly announced and no challenge interposed~ the envelope was thereupon opened and the number removed from the ballot and destroyed~ and the ballot deposited in a locked ballot box~ which had previously been inspected by the Canvassing Board in the presence of bystanders° After all identification envelopes had been so examined, and the ballots removed from the envelopes and placed in the ballot box~ the ballot box was thereupon thoroughly shaken and the ballots removed one at a time and tabulated by the Canvassing Board and the final results declared. Said canvass was conducted openly at a public meeting and in the presence of bystanders.
