LA PALMA PARK - CHARGES - SERVITE HIGH SCHOOL: Mro Murdoch reported that
Servite High School has scheduled a football game this Thursday afternoon,
November 5, 1959, at La Palma Park, and has requested a reduction in fees
charged for use of the facilitieso He further outlined the minimum direct
labor costs to the City J.n providing these facilities, being between $103
dnd $112, which amount does not include use of equipment or maintenance of
the field, and does not include Workmanus Compensation Insurance nor
ddministrdtiv8 costso
Bdsed on the information given by the City Manager regarding the
direct labor costs involved, Councilman Fry moved that a charge of $125000
per ddy-light gdme be mdde to Servite High School, this charge to be made
retroactive to previous day games played, and further, in the event said games
run into oV8rtim8 and lights dre required, a charge for the lights and also
overtime labor after 5;00 PoMo, will be made in addition to the $125000~

The City Planning Commission, pursuant to their Resolution No. 75,
granted said Special Use Permit~ subject to the following conditions;
1. That a connecting roadway be installed at the south side of the
property which will connect the north-south roadways.

corner location as the site for the church~ and in accordance with the wishes cr
Dr. Arnold, action by the City Council was again deferred two weeks (November 24,
1959) on motion by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Councilman Thompson. MOTION

VARIANCE NO. 1151: Submitted by Robertson Investment Corporation, requesting ~ss
than 70 foot frontages! Lots 8 and 9~ and 20 foot front yard setback on all
interior lots, Tracts Nos. 3566 and 35670 Said property located on the south

Action by the City Council was deferred from the meeting of November 3,
1959, for the checking of the City Planning CommissionQs minutes and correction
of Resolution to record action taken.
The City Planning Commission, pursuant to their Resolution No. 80,
Series 1959-60, granted Variance No. 1151, subject to variable front yard setbacks
on all interior lots.
No further action was taken by the City Council.
VARIANCE NO. 1160: Submitted by Freeholders Investment~ Inc., requesting permission
to erect three motels and one office building on property located on the north
side of Katella Avenue between Easy Way and Good Humor~ and further described as
Lot 1, Tract No. 22220
The City Planning Commission, pursuant to their Resolution Noo 83,
Series 1959-60, granted said variance for one motel only.
Action by the City Council was deferred from the meeting of November 3,
1959, for the presentation of detailed plans and elevations~
Mr. Henry Sasson filed detailed plans and elevations, signed and
dated this date.
The plans were reviewed by the City Council, it being understood that
they were to be a part of the file and the project would be constructed in
accordance therewith, no further action was taken by the City Council.
CHRISTMAS TREE SALES LOT: Request of Mr~ Thomas C~ Crippen for permission to
establish a Christmas Tree Sales Lot during the month of December, 1959, at the
northwest corner of Stanton and Lincoln Avenues~ together with petition of
approval, was submitted and read~
Mr. Crippen was present at the meeting"
In accordance with the recommendations of the City Manager and Fire
Department, said request was granted on a temporary basis for the month of
December, on motion by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Councilman Schutte.
MOTION CARRIED.
PROPOSED ORDINANCE: It was considered by the City Council that an ordinance
should be prepared to provide for temporary uses of property, such as Christmas
tree sales, and other temporary business ventures that would not be considered
as a zoning matter.
l?PLICY OF THE COUNCIL: It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by
Councilman Fry, that the City Manager be authorized to approve Christmas tree
sales in commercial and other suitable locations where the fire regulations can
be met, during the interim period that an ordinance can be prepared and adopted
governing temporary business ventures of this nature. MOTION CARRIED.
TENT - EAST ANAHEIM CENTER MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION: Request of ~ast Anaheim Center
-Merchants Association (Walter G. Keil, Coordinator) for permission to erect a
tent for use between December 7 and 17, 1959, to house their Christmas program,
was submitted and read.
Councilman Coons moved that the request be granted for temporary use
from December 7 to 17, 1959, subject to the requirements of the Fire Department,

ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS - SAINT BONIFACE SCHOOL: Request of Saint Boni~ce School
for permission to erect~ ~~ditional classrooms was submitted and read.

Due to the fact that this property is in Fire Zone No.1, the Council
felt further information should be obtained to determine the amount of additional
land acquired by the school, and the proposed locations of the buildings, and
on motion by Councilman Coons, seconded by Councilman Fry~ ordered the matter
held over one week (November 17, 1959). MOTION CARRIED.
ANAHEIM UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT - PARKING REGULATIONS - WESTERN HIGH SCHOOLi
Request of Anaheim Union High School District for consideration of an ordinance
that would enable Western High School to have the same type of parking
regulations surrounding the school that are now in effect in the area bordering
Anaheim Union High School, was submitted and read.
Mr. Murdoch reported on the recommendations made by the Traffic
Engineer resulting from a survey made of the areao
It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Councilman Coons,
that the City Attorney be authorized to prepare necessary ordinance in accordance
with the Traffic Engineer's recommendations. MOTION CARRIED.

for driveway approach, 922 West Center Street, was submitted, and granted by
the City Council, subject to presentation of a circulation plan that would be
acceptable to the City Engineering Department, on motion by Councilman Coons,
seconded by Councilman Pearson. MOTION CARRIED.
REQUEST - SIDEWALK WAIVER - 1681 MELLS LANE: Request of C. Irl Greer for waiver
of sidewalk requirement at 1681 Mells Lane, until such time as all owners on the
north side of Mells Lane are required to put in sidewalks, was submitted and
read.
BESOLUTION NO. 5617: Councilman Pearson offered Resolution No. 5617 and moved
for its passage and adoption, granting temporary waiver of sidewalk requirement,
on condition that sidewalks be installed by the owner or his successor in interest,
upon request by the City, and if he fails to install said sidewalks when so
requested, that the City may put them in and assess the cost thereof against tffi
property as a lien to be part of the taxes, and, further, on the condition that
a copy of this Resolution be recorded.

permission to waive rear yard setback on the property located on the east side

Series 1959-60, granted said variance, subject to;
1. That there be no opening on the north wall.

90-day extension of time to comply with conditions of rezoning established
pursuant to Resolution Noo 5438, was submitted, and granted by the City Council
on motion by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Thompson. MOTION CARRIED.
RECLASSIFICATION NO. F-56-57-72: Correspondence submitted by Bert Arnold and
W. Do Pritchard regarding termination of said reclassification was submitted
and ordered held over for one week in order to determine if the zoning could
proceed, on motion by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Coons. MOTION

furnishing of all election supplies and services for the General Municipal
Election in April, 1960, and after a careful analysis of said quotations and
type and character of services previously rendered to the City by the persons
or firms submitting said quotations, the City Council found the firm of
Martin & Chapman COo~ Ltdo to be best suited and qualified to furnish the
supplies and services required by the City, and thereupon, Councilman Fry moved
that a purchase order for these services and supplies be issued to the firm

RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE: Councilman Pearson offered the following Resolution
of Condolence.
WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the City of Anaheim has learned, with
sorrow, of the death of Georqe E. Holyoke; and
WHEREAS, George Eo Holyoke loyally and conscientiously served the City
of Anaheim as City Engineer from February 8, 1943, to the date of his retirement,
October 31, 1958, and
WHEREAS, he was held in high esteem by the City Council and all city
employees with whom he was associated, and his guidance and services were of
great value to the City of Anaheime
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
AnaheIm, that it deeply mourns the passing of George Eo Holyoke, and extends
its deepest sympathy to his wife, Maggieo

Mayor Schutte called the meeting to order.
MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting held November 10, 1959 were approved
on motion by Councilman Coons, seconded by Councilman Pearson. MOTION CARRIED.
,pUBLIC HEARING - RECLASSIFICATION NO. F-59-60-33: Submitted by Ralph E. and
Frances Eo Coats, requesting change of zone from R-l to R-2, property located
at 941 North Dickel Street (west side of Dickel Street, south of La Palma Avenue)o
