A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM SUPPORTING THE FORMATION AND GOALS OF THE
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WATER POLICY COMMITTEE AND
ENDORSING A COOPERATIVE EFFORT RELATIVE TO
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA'S WATER SUPPLY AND DEMAND.
WHEREAS, future water demand in Orange County and
Southern California will require the development of additional
water resources to ensure that a dependable and reliable water
supply is maintained; and
WHEREAS, the Supreme Court has ruled that Southern
California's water supply from the Colorado River will be sig-
nificantly reduced in 1985; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California,
recognizing the critical need to effectively manage, distribute
and develop California's water supply, identified seven water
goals in his 1984 State of the State address, including:
* Water conservation and salvaging of wasted water
* Protection of water quality
* Additional facilities to store surplus water under-
ground and in offstream reservoirs
* Interconnecting water systems
* Fish and wildlife protection
* Respecting areas-of-origin water rights
* Developing technology to expand water supplies; and
WHEREAS, new legislation has recently been introduced
in the State Legislature outlining the future management and
development of California's water resources; and
WHEREAS, there exists a need for Southern California
business, local governments and water agencies to cooperatively
identify and assess the future water supply and demand needs in
the Southern California region; and
WHEREAS, a public/private sector Water Policy
Committee is being formed comprised of representatives from the
seven Southern California counties of Imperial, Los Angeles,
Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura; and
WHEREAS, the major goals of the Water Policy Committee
are to assess Southern California's future water supply and
demand requirements; support efforts to develop additional
water supplies in Southern California; and assist in the
development of a statewide consensus on the management and
distribution of California's water;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Anaheim supports the formation and goals of the
Southern California Water Policy Committee.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council supports the
goal of the Committee to work cooperatively with the State
Department of Water Resources, Northern California representa-
tives, and interested parties throughout the State in support-
ing a statewide water consensus position which is equitable and
beneficial for all regions of the State.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by
the Ci ty Counci 1 of the Ci ty of Anaheim thi s 15th day of May, 1984.
