and post hospitai care, He said that theq are locating the building
some 300 feet back from the street in order to give $ oniet atmosphere.
The rest hrnne will not be in the order of a sanitarium. Mrs. J. C.
Johnson stated that they owa and run a rest home in Long Heach and in-
vited anyotte that might desire to come to Long Beach and visit their
, rest home as she understood there was some opposition to the grasrt ing

residents living on Gilbert SSreet prolesting the granting of the Vari-
ance. Mr. Martin, T19 North Gilbert Street, stated that he had pur-
chased his propertq expecting tha.t the area wouid be completeiy resi-
dential and that the granting of th3s Variance might cause ather commer-
cial uses to be introduced iato the area. Mrs. C. M. Thompson, appeared
befose the Commissioa aad brought up the question of increased traffic.
It was pointed out to Mrs. Thompson that the increa.~se of traffi~ caused
by n rest hane would be considerabiq less than that c:.used by tl~e pro-
perty being used for residential purposea. Mr. G. L. Lyons, 8356 Gil-
bert Street, appeared before the Commission and stated that he ~ad one
acre between the schooi a:d the subject property and did not isnow
whether this wouid heip or injure his pzoperty, but that he would like
4o see a fence erected to:separate the rest home from his propetty.
Mr. B. A. Mathews. 705 North Gilbert Street, stated that he hadinothing
persor~al against the applicants but did o'~ject to the type of business:
It was his feeling that the piaqground and school would produce noise
that would be objectioa~le to people living in the rest hane. Dr.
Walker appeared before the Commission again and stated that the rest
home wiil be primariiy for eideriy people who desire a place to li~re.

but wili have the use of the patio for sitting and exercising and
felt that this was aa ideal location for this as the property was 600
feet deep and that it is surrounded by trees on a11 sides. The pro-
posed use wili not increase traffic as the residents wili pfobably
not have visitors every day of the week and there will be adequate
parking available for ali visitors to the rest hane located directly
in front of the rest home which wiil not be visibie from Giibert Street.
The four bedroom hause presentiy on the property will be occupied by
myself and family and naturailq the property wili be kept as ettrac-
