A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM RECOMP~IENDING
TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PRECISE
ALIGNMENT FOR WEST STREET FROM 122 FEET NORTH OF HAMpSHIRE AVENUE
EXTENDING SOUTHWESTERLY ACROSS FLORE STREEl' TO ALIGD~ WITH
THE EXISTING WEST STREET ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF BALL ROAD
WHEREAS, West Street presently does not have a continueus alignment on the
west side of the Santa Ana Freeway extending from South Street on i:he north to
~ ; Cerritos Avenue on the south due to the fact that an offset of approximately 552
feet exists betwee~ its ?asterly terminus at Ball Road and its southerly extension;

~," cor.sideration of the adoption of a precise alignmer:t for West Street between a point
Iy i 122 feet north of Nampshire Avenue on the north and Cerritos Avenue on the south; and
'~ I WHEREAS, the City Planning Commission did hold a public hearing in the City
Hall in the City of Anaheim, on May 19, 1969, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., notice of said
~'~ public hearing having been duly given as required by law and in accordance with the
f'~ provisions of the Anaheim Municipal Code, to hear and consider evidence for and
,~ against said Precise Alignment, and to investiqate and make findings and recommendations
-I in connection therewith; and

I WFIERGAS, said ~ommission after duc inspection, investigation, and study made by
itself and in its behalf and after due consi.deration of all evidence and reports
z~i offered at said hearing, DOES HERFBY FIND

~ 1. That two alternatives were presented with Alternate "A" proposing to
~i extend from the existir.g right-of-way of West 5treet approximately 122
feet north of the centerline of Hampshire Avenue, southwesterly across
~ Flore Street to align witt; the existing location of West Street on the
south side of Ball Road; and Alternate "B" eatending from the existing
right-of-way of West Street approximately 15'. feet north of the center-
~ line of Ball Road, southwesterly across Ball Road to the existing align-
; inent of West Street approximately 149 feet north of the centerline of
_ Nlinston Road.

I 2. That the establishment of a continuous roadway which could ultimately
~ extend northerly and southerly to provide a direct link between the
~ Center City and the southwest Commercial-Recreation area was strongly
urged in both the Victor Gruen Center City Report as well as the Citizens
-~ Capital Improvement Committee on Public Works in 1968.
,-i ~ 3. That cost es±imates by the Right-of-Way Division indir,ate that Alternate
~ "A" would bQ the less expensive of the two alternatives.

( ~ 4. That tax r.evenue losses of $10,500 per year would be realiied if Alternate
~ ~~ "B" were fevorably considered.

~ 5. Th~t both the Traffic and Engineering Division of the Public Works Depaztment
S' and the Development Services Department daem Alternate "A" as the most
G feasible and desirable alignment to provide both the link betweeo the
t cen~,ral and southwestern area, and to alleviate the excessive traffic on
~ Harbor Boulevard which is now the only street overcrossing and connecting
~~~ ;~ with the Santa Ana Freeway.

~. ~~ 6. That the proposed realignmPnt of West Street, as depicted on A1ternate "A"
~ and "B" is the f3rst phase oirected toward improving circulation in the
Commercial-Recreation Area.
. 7. 1'hat eight persons appea=ed, representing 35 proaerty owners present in
the Council Chamber who would be affected by the proposed alternatives, to
express their opinions.

NOIk, THEREFORE, EE IT RESGi„~£r~ th~,t the City Planning Commission does hereby
recommend to the City Council of the f;ity of Anaheim the adoption of the precise
alignment of West Street as depicte~ on Alternate "A" on the basis of the forego~r~g
findings.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is signed and approved by me this 29th day of May, 1969.
