Dear City Clerk, This is a petition to support the DEV2022-00007 and also would like to amend the three (3) additional conditions for approval to the CUP No. 2237 of the Anaheim Lodge motel. Please provide copy for Mayor and all City Council Members. Thank you, Kathy Tran. 1 TO: Mayor and City Council members of City of Anaheim, Attached is copy of the informal letter and request with signatures in support of DEV2022- 00007 and support of suggested three (3) additional Conditions for Approval in relation to Conditional Use Permit No. 2237 for Anaheim Lodge at 837 South Beach Blvd. This letter was brought to the attention of residents and neighbors on South Hayward Street, directly behind the line of motels on Beach Blvd and adjacent to 837 S Beach Blvd. Sincerely, Kathy Tran S. Hayward St Anaheim, Ca 92804 To: Neighbors of 837 S Beach Blvd, Anaheim Lodge motel, As you may or may not be aware of, the motel at 837 S Beach Blvd (ANAHEIM LODGE MOTEL) is meeting with the City of Anaheim on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 5:30 P.M. A City- initiated request that the City Council consider the revocation or modification of Conditional Use Permit No. 2237 for an existing motel (Anaheim Lodge). The reasons are because there has been a dramatic increase in arrests and called for service at the Anaheim Lodge in recent years. Per Staff reported stated at Planning Commission meeting on Feb 28, 2022: Of the 18 motels on the boulevard, the Anaheim Lodge has the second highest calls for services in 2021; arrests at the property jumped 473% between 2020 and 2021. Police statistics show that between 2017 and 2021 the Anaheim Lodge accounts for 18% all arrests occurring at Beach Blvd motels. Criminal activities include assault, battery, drug use, firearms possession, and a homicide that occurred in April 2020. On June 4, and September 3, 2021, the Anaheim Police Department Gang Unit served several drug sales warrants in various room at the Anaheim Lodge. Recently, Code Enforcement records include complaints related to the lack of property maintenance, including broken windows, landscaping, general trash, and debris. City of Anaheim Fire and Rescue personnel generally respond to fires and medical emergencies and since 2019, Anaheim Fire and Rescue has responded to 35 calls for service for various medical emergencies. The number of calls in 2020 and 2021 more than doubled from previous years. Specifically, there are calls related to drug overdoses and poisoning, seizures, mental emotional or psychological issues, unconscious or unresponsive individual, cardiac arrest and even the fatal shooting in 2020.” Our neighborhood, primarily on South Hayward Street, adjacent behind the motes, is directly affected by this and other issues with having the many motels behind our backyards. Since this meeting is open to the public and to our opinions and suggestions, it is an excellent opportunity to make requests to ensure our property, family and neighborhood safety is protected from this day forward. The City of Anaheim has a list of 21 items or “conditions” that the ANAHEIM LODGE MOTEL must meet for approval to continue the permit of a motel. This list of 21 Conditions is attached for you to review. I have suggested in detail 3 more conditions. The three (3) conditions I have suggested are as follows: 1) Construct of an eight (8) foot high masonry wall (from the highest point of grade) along the West property line as set forth in Table 46-A in Title 18 Zoning, Chapter 18.46.110 Screening, Fences, Wall and Hedges. 2) The landscape buffer area between the wall and parking lot shall remain enclosed with a six (6) foot high chain link fence with a locked gate at all time to discourage prowlers from entering the area accordance with Plans and shall consist of ground cover and trees. This area shall be clean and clear of all debris and shall be maintained in good condition at all time. Signs containing the words “No trespassing 602 (K) P.C” shall be posted at the entrance of the gate of the chain link fence. 3) Increase the wall height to six (6) foot high located on the South property line to prevent and prohibit prowlers and criminals jumping over from the adjacent motel (Sahara Motel) and trespassing to our back yard. I am simply asking neighbors on South Hayward St and with backyard to these motels to sign in agreement to these requests so that I can show the City our concern for our neighborhood, home, property and families. A simple signature and address are asked for. In support of our suggestions and modification for “Conditional of Approval” for Conditional Use Permits for ANAHEIM LODGE MOTEL and/or any other motels property on Beach Blvd behind the homes on South Hayward Street in Anaheim City. Sincerely, Kathy Tran. S Hayward St Anaheim, Ca 92804.
