AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM REPEALING
CHAPTERS 15.24 AND 15.50 OF TITLE 15 OF THE
ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL CODE AND ADOPTING THE 1985
EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF
BUILDING OFFICIALS, UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE,
WITH AMENDMENTS THERETO, AND AMENDING TITLE 15
OF THE ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING THERETO
A NEW CHAPTER 15.50.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
That Chapters 15.24 and 15.50 of Title 15 of the
Anaheim Municipal Code be, and the same are hereby, repealed.
SECTION 2.
That Title 15 of the Anaheim Municipal Code be, and
the same is hereby, amended by adding thereto a new Chapter 15.50
to read as follows:
"CHAPTER 15.50
MECHANICAL CODE
SECTION 15.50.001 APPROVAL OF CODE
The City Council does hereby find and determine, as the
result of investigation and tests conducted by the City and
its Building Official, or by reason of the accepted
principles or tests by recognized national or state
authorities, technical or scientific organizations, that
the Uniform Mechanical Code, 1985 Edition, of the
International Conference of Building Officials and the
International Conference of Plumbing and Mechanical
Officials is an approved Code for adoption by reference
within the meaning of Section 50022.1 of the Government
Code of the State of California.
SECTION 15.50.010 ADOPTION OF CODE
Pursuant to the provisions of Sections 50022.1 to 50022.8,
both inclusive, of the Government Code of the State, the
City of Anaheim does hereby adopt by reference the Uniform
Mechanical Code, 1985 Edition, of the International
Conference of Building Officials and the International
Conference of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials
(hereinafter referred to in this chapter as the "Uniform
Mechanical Code,") with amendments thereto and the
Appendices; at least one
copy of said Code shall be filed in the office of the City
Clerk of the City of Anaheim and shall be kept there for
public inspection while said Code is in force. The City
Clerk shall at all times maintain a reasonable supply of
copies of said code available for purchase by the public.
SECTION 15.50.203 BOARD OF APPEALS
Section 203 of the Uniform Mechanical Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
Section 203. In order to determine the suitability of
alternate materials and methods of construction and to
provide for reasonable interpretations of the
provisions of this Code, there shall be, and is
hereby, created a Board of Appeals. The Building
Official shall be an ex officio member and shall act
as Secretary of the Board. The Board of Appeals shall
be the City Council. The Board shall adopt reasonable
rules and regulations for conducting its
investigations and shall render all decisions and
findings in writing to the Building Official with a
duplicate copy to the appellant and may adopt such new
legislation as is consistent therewith.
SECTION 15.50.304 PERMIT FEES
Section 304(a) of the Uniform Mechanical Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 304(a) Permit Fees. Every applicant for
a permit to do work regulated by this Code shall state
in writing on the application form provided for that
purpose, the character of work proposed to be done and
the amount and kind in connection therewith, together
with such information, pertinent thereto, as may be
required.
The fees which shall be paid to the Building Official
as the cost of permit shall be as determined and set
forth by resolution of the City Council. Any
reference in this Code to Table No. 3-A shall be
deemed to refer to the fee schedule as established by
resolution of the City Council and Table No. 3-A as
set forth in this Code shall be deemed superseded by
the fee schedule as set forth in said resolution.
SECTION 15.50.512 SCREENING
Chapter 5 of the Uniform Mechanical Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto Section 512, to read as
follows:

Section 512. Prohibited Locations. Equipment
regulated by this Code shall not be located in any
front or side yard as established by the zoning
ordinances.
SECTION 15.50.513 SCREENING
Chapter 5 of the Uniform Mechanical Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto Section 513, to read as
follows:
Section 513. Screenin . Equipment regulated by
this Code, when located on the roof or outside of the
building, shall be screened from public view. Such
screening shall conform to the architecture of the
building.
EXCEPTION: Window air conditioners
SECTION 15.50.514 NOISE ABATEMENT
Chapter 5 of the Uniform Mechanical Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto Section 514, to read as
follows:
Section 514. Noise Abatement Equipment regulated by
this Code shall be installe so that it will not
produce a sound level above the limits set forth in
Chapter 6.70 of the Anaheim Municipal Code.
SECTION 15.50.1202 INSTALLATION
Section 1202 of the Uniform Mechanical Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto the following paragraph:
Air cooled condensers or cooling towers located within
a building or confined space shall have the air
discharge directly to the outside of the building.
SECTION 15.50.1901 RANGES
Section 1901 of the Uniform Mechanical Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto the following paragraph (c):
(c) Residential Kitchen Ventilation. When a range
,_. hood is installed over domestTc ree-standing or
built-in ranges the exhaust shall be ducted directly
to the outside of the building.
SECTION 15.50.2100 STEAM AND HOT WATER BOILERS
Chapter 21 of Appendix B of the Uniform Mechanical
Code is hereby amended by deleting therefrom Section
2124, Section 2125, and Section 2126."

SECTION 3. PENALTY
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to violate any provision or to fail to comply
with any of the requirements of this ordinance. Any person,
firm or corporation violating any provision of this
ordinance or failing to comply with any of its requirements
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceeding One
Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) or by imprisonment not
exceeding six (6) months, or by both such fine and
imprisonment. Each such person, firm or corporation shall
be deemed guilty of a separate offense for each day during
any portion of which any violation of any of the provisions
of this ordinance is committed, continued or permitted by
such person, firm or corporation, and shall be punishable
therefor as provided for in this ordinance.
SECTION 4. SAVINGS CLAUSE
Neither the adoption of this ordinance nor the
repeal hereby of any other ordinance of this City shall in
any manner affect the prosecution for violations of
ordinances, which violations were committed prior to the
effective date hereof, nor be construed as a waiver of any
license or penalty or the penal provisions applicable to any
violation thereof. The provisions of this ordinance,
insofar as they are substantially the same as ordinance
provisions previously adopted by the City relating to the
same subject matter, shall be construed as restatements and
continuations, and not as new enactments.
SECTION S. SEVERABILITY.
The City Council of the City of Anaheim hereby
declares that should any section, paragraph, sentence or
word of this ordinance, hereby adopted, be declared for any
reason to be invalid, it is the intent of the Council that
it would have passed all other portions of this ordinance
independent of the elimination herefrom of any such portion
as may be declared invalid.

by the City Council of the City of Anaheim this 24th day of
