I am writing regarding Item 3 - the Brookhurst Corridor Study. I am thrilled to see this come to
fruition. Improving the Brookhurst corridor is an important high priority area and the city as a
whole and was key in my decision to apply for the appointment to council.
As you may know, I presented this agenda item in August of 2022. My goal was to develop a long
term plan that will help develop and grow not only the Little Arabia community but the entire
Brookhurst Corridor and increase the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhoods that will
thrive for decades. I am excited for what's to come!
In my opinion, it's imperative we proceed in the best interest of the residents and business
owners along Brookhurst. It's premature to focus on the Little Arabia area first before completing
the research and having all the data. I understand the community is anxious to get moving after
waiting 20 years for this designation. Investing another 6 months to a year to create a solid
foundation is the right thing to do. Let's do this right the first time.
My intention for this study was to have a comprehensive understanding of what already exist,
what recommendations can be made to improve and develop commercial and residential
opportunities, and review the Little Arabia area and all organizations and non-profits for potential
assistance from the city.
From my first meeting with Rashad Al-Dabbagh, Amin Nash, and Belal Delati I saw their passion
for their community. I am proud to have been part of the majority vote to make their dreams
come true. Again, after 20 years of working for a designation let's invest an additional 6 months
to a year to provide the residents and business owners the best possible outcome (or effort, or
project, or result).
I respectfully ask that council move what is proposed as Phase 1 to Phase 2. We should evaluate
from the ground up. It is the fiscally responsible approach and it is a common sense approach. We
should respect that process. We must have the data necessary to build a long term plan that will
support the entire Brookhurst Corridor and the Little Arabia district.
Thank you for your consideration.

In gratitude,
Gloria
