Hello,
My name is Jose and I am calling attention to an appointed Orange County Housing Commissioner named James
Mai.
This is a letter to Act against Hate, but I cc'd also the OC Board of Supervisors, because it involves an ongoing
situation with the James Mai hate incidents they did nothing about.
James Mai has close ties to Don Wagner, the District 3 Supervisor. They are friends, that is obvious from his social
media pictures.
Last year, James Mai, who is Vietnamese American openly bragged of committing a Hate Crime against a Hindu
owned Indian (Asian Indian) restaurant. At the time he held two appointed Commission posts, one in Irvine and the
Housing Authority Commission. Mai was forced to withdraw his request for reappointment in Irvine, but is still on
OC Housing Commission. Even worse he is being reappointed to that one, in spite of every thing they know he has
done.
James Mai also cyberstalked three separate women involved with the effort to terminate his Commission posts. In
one of those cases of cyberstalking, he doxed an HT survivor and posted her home address and insinuated that men
should visit her for "turtle soup", basically meaning rape her. She was actually the same person who initially reported
James Mai's Instagram posts. Another woman stalked by him is an Irvine Commissioner herself.
Is it possible for your organization to track this situation and monitor developments? It was shocking seeing Don
Wagner involved in anti-hate events, while simultaneously posing with James Mai as recently as February of this
year. He has not attempted to remove Mai from his Commission post, even those easily could. Unfortunately, none
of the OC Supervisors have even considered taking action. Not a single one. The matter was never publicly
discussed, the agenda items are all documented and the Board meetings recorded.
Please give this matter your thoughtful consideration.
