Mayor Aitken and Council Member Carlos Leon,
As a lifelong resident of Anaheim and a district two resident, I am invested in the wellbeing of my city. That is
why I am following the independent investigation into the alleged City Hall corruption that the FBI revealed.
You both campaigned on government transparency and restoring the people's trust in the City. I respectfully
urge you to make sure that Anaheim residents and members of the public have full access to the entirety of the
report of the investigation as soon as the City receives it from JL Group and retired Judge Clay Smith. Before
Council Member Dr. Moreno's term ended, on November 15, 2022, he motioned to vote on the council's
commitment to making the report public. The council approved this vote. Although you were not part of the
council at the time, I hope to see that you continue to affirm your commitment to government transparency and
restore the public's trust by not undoing this decision now.
Anaheim residents deserve government transparency, especially if we want to move forward from the scandal
that broke out due to the FBI's investigation into Anaheim. However, whatever the decision may be, I also
respectfully request to the Public Information Office that you ensure that the City of Anaheim makes a public
announcement on all social media pages, and the City's website, of any decision and why they were made on the
independent report -- that is whether we will have public access to the entirety of the final report. I hope you can
make this request to the Public Information Office during tonight's May 2, 2023 council meeting, as I know that
is in your scope to do so. Taxpayer money is funding this report and we deserve, at the very least, public,
intentional, and timely updates.
Sincerely,
Karen Romero Estrada
District 2 resident
