Anaheim Blvd. Anaheim, CA 92805 RE: SUPPORT Agenda Item 18 – Hotel Worker Safety Dear Mayor Aitken, Mayor Pro Tem Rubalcava, and Members of the City Council: On behalf of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, I write in support of agenda item 18 directing the drafting of an ordinance addressing hotel worker safety. Providing personal security devices for hotel workers is an idea with broad consensus. Indeed, many of Anaheim’s hotels have already installed these devices. A written notice to hotel guests regarding the ordinance and that any guest will be removed at their own expense are common sense measures. Annual training during paid work hours and paid time to report conduct to the police are reasonable policies. As you prepare the ordinance, I urge you to ensure that hotels of varying sizes are included in the discussion. Any such ordinance should ensure flexibility for the hotels on who is designated to receive alerts because each hotel may have different determinations in how to optimally implement this. The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce thanks Mayor Pro Tem Rubalcava for proposing an ordinance on hotel worker safety. I thank the Council for working to strengthen safety in Anaheim. Sincerely, Laura Cunningham President & CEO
