Dennis Yunk President Anaheim Firefighters L2899 President@anaheimfirefighters.org 1 June 9,2023 Office of the Mayor and City Council City of Anaheim 200 S.Anaheim Boulevard,Suite 733 Anaheim,CA 92805 RE:SUPPORT City of Anaheim Hotel Worker Safety Ordinance Dear Mayor,Mayor Pro Tem and City Council, On behalf of the Anaheim Firefighters Association I write this in support of the Hotel Safety Worker Ordinance,Item 28.At the May 16,2023,Council meeting,Mayor Pro Tem Natalie Rubalcava agendized the consideration for adoption of a Hotel Worker Safety Ordinance. After council discussion there was a unanimous vote of 7 to 0 in favor of adopting an ordinance that prioritizes hotel worker safety. As a member of the public safety community in the City of Anaheim,we support an ordinance of this type.We expect the City of Anaheim, the economic engine of the County of Orange,to lead in creating comprehensive policies that ensure the hospitality industry workers in our city have the necessary safety protocols in place to conduct their assigned responsibilities without any fear of sexual assault, violence,or criminal activity against them.Furthermore,we support an ordinance that ensures this population is not retaliated against by an employer,if they should have to report activity that creates an unsafe working environment. For the reasons stated above, the Anaheim Firefighters Association supports the proposed ordinance and encourages the city council to expeditiously adopt the Hotel Worker Safety ordinance to ensure our hotel employees have adequate safeguards in place to protect them while working at a hotel in Anaheim.
