CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on March 5, 2020, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public
Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 5:01 p.m.

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends of Anaheim Public Library
will be having their next sale on June 13, 2020. The money that is collected by the Friends comes back to
the Library in the form of children’s programs.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Friends of Canyon Hills Library (FOCAL) recently
installed additional seating in the Reading Garden of the Canyon Hills Library. Their first Book Sale of the
year begins Wednesday, March 25th, and concludes Saturday, March 28th. FOCAL is thankful for the
generosity of the community in donating books to raise funds to enhance the Library.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation is well into the planning for
their 25th Annual Mystery Authors’ Luncheon on Sunday, April 19, 2020. They have over 200 reservations.
The guest moderator is award-winning mystery author Allison Brennan, who will join three entertaining and
also award-winning authors Timothy Hallinan, Catriona McPherson, and Mike Befeler for a fun-filled
afternoon of clever capers. Tickets as well as ad space in the program are still available. The Foundation
thanked Kris Lasher for their assistance in receiving a helicopter ride from the Anaheim Police Department
for the Live Auction. They are also planning an evening with an author for May so stay tuned for more
details. The Foundation is looking forward to The Big Read Events beginning March 14, 2020.
D.UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None.
E.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Audrey shared a thank you card to the Euclid staff
from children from a local day care for their Christmas programming.
II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 10, 2020 MEETING: The minutes were approved as
presented.

IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.PLATINUM TRIANGLE CAMPAIGN: Chloe Van Stralendorff presented the plan to promote Books on
the Go at ARTIC as well as Library programming, eBooks, etc. around the Platinum Triangle. Chloe is
working with an MA student who is doing this as her thesis. The campaign will run April through August.
Chloe will present the outcome measures to the Board. Audrey thanked Linda Newby for bringing the idea
forward.
B.PONDEROSA JOINT-USE LIBRARY MAKERSPACE: Guadalupe Gomez shared information on the
California State Library grant funded Ponderosa Joint-Use Library Makerspace. A Makerspace is coming to
Haskett as well. The main goal is intergenerational programming that encourages use of imagination.
V.INFORMATION
A.ANAHEI’M FIRST: Linda shared that the Board is compiling and reviewing the data to make a
recommendation at the March 24, 2020 City Council Meeting.
B.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
Audrey shared the Anaheim Public Library Foundation will be recognized for their 25th Anniversary
as well as contributing over $1,000,000 to the Library over that 25 year period at the March 24th City
Council Meeting.
Permission to apply for a State Library Grant for a programming van is on the March 10th City
Council Agenda.
The Library is partnering with the Anaheim Housing Authority for the third year to go into lower
income housing areas to bring the Summer Reading Program to families who may not have
transportation to get to a library. In addition, the Library is applying for a grant to provide lunch with
the pop-up programing.
C.BUDGET: The Board requested the list of supplemental requests that are being submitted as well as the
original list that included more full-time staffing.
VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.STATISTICS: Revised statistics were provided to the Board as there was an error on the original. Stan
requested a revised format on the Monthly Statistical and Expenditure reports.
B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board
recognized Thomas Edelblute for going above and beyond to assist Linda Newby.
VII.BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER LINDA NEWBY: Informed staff that the Library Board roster is not updated on the City’s website.
VICE CHAIR STAN OFTELIE: Requested to know if any progress has been made in bringing Project ACES
to the Orange Unified and Placentia-Linda School Districts that have schools in Anaheim.
CHAIR DAVID LAVIGUER: None.

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be April 13, 2020, at the Central Library.
B.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 6:20 p.m.
