CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on September 10, 2020, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:01 p.m.

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends of Anaheim Public
Library are thankful for curbside service. The September 5th book sale was cancelled due to the
continued closure of the Library. Once the Library is back open they will be in need of donations
for the book nook, especially magazines, paper backs, and children’s books. They are thankful to
Audrey and Jennifer for keeping them informed.
Audrey shared that the Friends are selling surplus books to vendors and have received $600.00 and
is thankful to them as those funds support library programming, etc.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Audrey shared that the Friends of the Canyon
Hills Library continue to raise funds by selling puzzles, videos, etc. She applauded their creativity
as they support programing and materials at the Canyon Hills Library.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation is holding their
annual membership drive. The 2021 Mystery Authors Luncheon is tentatively planned for April
18, 2021. They are so appreciative of all those using Amazon Smiles and designating the Anaheim
Public Library Foundation as their charity of choice. It is amazing how quickly purchases add up
to donations for this charity. If you have not yet signed up it is easy…just go to Amazon Smiles
and choose us as your charity, then order away like you normally do on Amazon. Then 0.01% of
your total will go directly to the Foundation.

II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 10, 2020 MEETING: The minutes were approved as
presented.

III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION
OF THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2019/20 PER ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908: The Board requested edits and an
expanded explanation of the need for additional full-time staff. A final draft will be
brought to the Board for approval in October.
IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.RACIAL EQUITY: Guadalupe Gomez presented the goals and plans established by the Racial
Equity Committee. This initiative is funded by a Cultivating Racial Equity Initiative grant from the
California State Library to provide staff training on racial equity and inclusion.
B.UPDATED STATE GUIDANCE: CALIFORNIA STATE IBRARY RESTORING IN-PERSON
SERVICES IN CALIFORNIA LIBRARIES: Audrey shared that the Library is looking into
opening Central, Haskett, and Canyon Libraries on either October 19, 2020 or October 26, 2020.
The current guidance is to open with 25% capacity. In addition patrons and staff will be required
to wear masks, maintain social distance, and time limits of one hour will be enforced.
V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
Audrey reported that the Central Green Space construction will resume the process to go to
bid for the remaining work to be done.
The Library has received letters, emails, and comments from seniors thanking staff for the
Senior Kindness Kits. This initiative was fielded by the Mobile Library staff.
C.BUDGET: The reopening of libraries will cost additional money for PPE, signage, and cleaning
supplies.
VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.STATISTICS: The format of the statistics are being revised for the new fiscal year. The revised
statistics will be presented at the October meeting.
B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: Linda
recognized Keely Hall for a generous spirit recognition for creating the Senior Kindness Kits and
ensuring they are getting to the seniors in the community. She added that Keely had generously
given Linda a face shield after she inquired where Keely got hers.

VII.BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER ROSE CHEN: Shared that she had seen an email from Anaheim Union High School
District stating that they were not sure if tutoring was still being offered by Anaheim Public Library.
Audrey will look into this.
MEMBER LINDA NEWBY: Stated she is happy to be included in the Trivia Night program planning
that will be held virtually.
VICE CHAIR STAN OFTELIE: Requested to know if money for a new Library will be part of the
Angels Stadium deal.

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be October 12, 2020, at the Central Library.
