CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on March 4, 2021, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:00 p.m.
PRESENT:Rose Chen, David Laviguer, Linda Newby, Stan Oftelie

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Helen Carter will be retiring as
President of the Friends of Anaheim Public Library. New officers will be elected at their next
meeting. The Friends Book Nook continues to do well and donations are now being accepted
and will go through the quarantine process.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: They continue to sell inventory acquired
prior to Library closures and Covid-19 prevention strategies at great prices. With many patrons
having increased time at home, books available in the Rushing to Read Corner are of high
interest. Additionally, FOCAL has hosted several successful outdoor FLASH sales, offering
books at reduced prices. Their next FLASH Sale will be on Friday, March 12, 2021.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation is pleased to
announce that they are moving forward as of now to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the
Mystery Authors Luncheon Sinister Shenanigans, on Sunday October 24, 2021. The guest panel
includes award winning authors Timothy Hallinan, Paige Shelton and Mike Befeler with award
winning mystery author Allison Brennan as guest moderator. Tickets go on sale in September
through Eventbrite. Ginny Gardner is stepping down as President of the Foundation as of April
1,2021,to care for her husband who was in a tragic car accident which left him paralyzed from
the chest down last year. It has been her absolute pleasure to be a part of the Anaheim Public
Library Foundation and she will do her best to provide a smooth transition for the next president.

II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 8, 2021 MEETING: The minutes were
approved as presented.

IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.VIRTUAL STATISTICS: The previous reports were corrected to reflect year to date statistics as
opposed to end of fiscal year statistics. Chloe Van Stralendorff presented the Social Media
statistics to the Library Board.
V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The Carnegie Library Building isbeing treated for termites.
An application has been submitted for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds
to fix the slipping windows at the Carnegie Library Building.
B.BUDGET: The Budget Division is reviewing department budget proposals.
VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.STATISTICS: None.
B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: Linda
recognized Thomas Edelblute for truly exceptional patron service. Linda observed Thomas’
interaction with a patron which displayed patience and compassion. Linda also recognized
Audrey Lujan for ensuring staff is trained in dealing with patron issues as well as working with
other City agencies to ensure the safety of patrons and staff . Audrey has been invited to other
Libraries to share techniques regarding patron issues. Anaheim Public Library sets the standard
for many other libraries in the State in regard to handling problem patrons. Audrey Lujan and
Thomas Edelblute should be recognized for all the work they do to make our Anaheim Libraries
be the example of the Anaheim Way of doing so well and being a resource of best practices
statewide.
VII.BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER ROSE CHEN: Wished all the ladies a Happy International Women’s Day.
MEMBER LINDA NEWBY: None.
VICE CHAIR STAN OFTELIE: Suggested the Library Board do a recognition of Helen Carter,
outgoing President of the Friends of the Anaheim Public Library and Ginny Gardner, outgoing
President of the Anaheim Public Library Foundation.

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be April 12, 2021, at the Central Library.
