CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on September 9, 2021, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:03 p.m.
PRESENT:Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan, David Laviguer, Linda Newby
ABSENT:Rose Chen
STAFF:Thomas Edelblute, Senior Library Services Manager; Jennifer Foxx, PT Management
Assistant; April Ray, Library Services Supervisor
I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends made $349.80 at
their previous book sale and $840.69 in the Book Nook. The next sale is September 17th. The
Friends have offered access to their materials to staff to be used as prizes for adult programs.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Donations continue to be plentiful.
Volunteers from Friends of Canyon Anaheim Library (FOCAL) are busy each day sorting, and
shelving books for sale in the Book Corner. Some donations have been sent to other Anaheim
Library Branches for sale in their venue. Other donated items not likely to sell are forwarded as
gifts to interested readers including senior citizens, children, and homeless families. Collectible
donations have been good sellers, including to private parties who conduct online sales. The next
outdoor FLASH sales are scheduled for October 8th and November 19th.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation cancelled the
Mystery Authors Luncheon Sinister Shenanigans, on Sunday October 24, 2021, due to
unforeseen circumstances. The 25th annual Mystery Author’s Luncheon has been rescheduled to
April 24, 2022. They are continuing the membership drive and hope that each Library Board
Member will support the Foundation.

E.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 9, 2021 MEETING: The minutes were approved as
presented.
III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION OF
THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2020/21 PER ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS
AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908: A draft was presented to the Board for their review.
The Board requested a section be added to the letter addressing budgetary challenges.

IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.NATIONAL LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH: April Ray presented on what the Library
will be doing to celebrate National Library Sign-up Month, including scavenger hunts, weekly
raffles, prize wheels, etc., funded by the Friends of the Anaheim Public Library. The goal is to
have a 10% increase in library applications and check-outs over the previous three-month
average.
V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The job walk for the Central Green Space and Euclid Green Space was held and the bids are
being reviewed.
CDBG funding has been approved for the restoration of the windows at the Carnegie
Building.

C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS:
Michelle recognized teen volunteer Sharad for going above and beyond helping library patrons.
The Board requested a list of businesses that contributed to the Summer Reading to be
recognized.
VII.BOARD ITEMS
VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Stated she served as a judge for the APL/Altrusa/AESD Creative
Writing Contest for Ponderosa Elementary School District. She was impressed with the quality of
writing from the students. Linda also shared that Altrusa is a major sponsor of the Creative Writing
Contest and is having a fundraiser on November 13, 2021.
MEMBER SHELBY HOGAN: None.
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Shared that she enjoys walking her kids to Central Library and
looks forward to serving on the Board.

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be October 11, 2021, at the Central Library.
