CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on March 10, 2022, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:03 p.m.
PRESENT:Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan, David Laviguer, Linda Newby

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends are continuing to
hold monthly book sales. They made $362.10 in February. The next sale is scheduled for
March 18, 2022. The Friends sell books for 25 cents each or $2.00 a bag, DVDs for $1, and CDs
for 25 cents. They hope to have a two-day sale in April for National Library Month. The Book
Nooks at the different libraries continue to sell books. Funds raised from the sale of special
edition library cards help fund the Summer Reading Program and adult programming. The
Friends look forward to attending the Anaheim Public Library Foundations’ Mystery Authors
Luncheon. The Friends Board has added a new member.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: The Friends of Canyon Hills Anaheim
Library (FOCAL) are proud of the tile mural now mounted at the Library entrance. At the
Canyon Hills 40th Anniversary Celebration gathering last July, participants painted tiles reflecting
appreciation of the Library and reading opportunities. The tiles were arranged in a display
mosaic which presents a colorful showcase. FOCAL continues to host very successful Outdoor
Flash Sales. The next Flash Sale will be on Thursday, April 14, from noon until 4:00 p.m. and
Friday, April 15, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Their next meeting is scheduled for Thursday,
March 17, 2022.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The 25th annual Mystery Author’s
Luncheon is scheduled for April 24, 2022. Tickets are now available through Eventbrite and are
$60 per person or $550 per table. A plaque commemorating the Foundation’s 25th anniversary
will be unveiled at Central Library on March 17, 2022.
D.COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A letter from Assembly Member Tom Daly announcing
that Linda Newby was selected as “Woman of the Year” in the 69th Assembly District was read
into the record.
II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 14, 2022 MEETING: The minutes were
approved as amended to reflect that Rose Chen was absent from the meeting.

IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.ANAHEIM READS RECAP: Cynthia Hicks presented information on Anaheim Reads. This
year’s program was funded by a $20,000 grant from Cal Humanities as well as the Anaheim
Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library, and the Friends of the
Canyon Hills Library. The book chosen was "The Best We Could Do" by Thui Bui, a graphic
novel/memoir of her family’s transition from Vietnam to the U.S. Programs centered around
Vietnamese culture and history, including speakers and art programs. The kick-off event
featured Key Note Speaker Author Chau Thuy, Thien An Lion Dancers & Drummers
performance, crafts, sweet treats, and a free rental coupon. The event was covered by Little
Saigon TV.
V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The City of Anaheim’s Web Page has been redesigned. A presentation on the changes to the
Library’s section will be made at the next meeting.
The STEAM Fair will be held on March 26, 2022 at the Central Library.
Audrey shared that Katrina Ford’s last day with Anaheim Public Library will be
April 14, 2022.
Staff has been attending local Veteran’s groups meetings to announce the Chromebooks and
Hot Spots for Veterans program.
B.BUDGET: Planning has begun for Fiscal Year 2022/23.

C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: David
honored Katrina Ford for her service to the community. Linda recognized Jennifer Foxx for
putting together the weekly APL updates.
VII.BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER SHELBY HOGAN: Congratulated Linda Newby for being named “Woman of the Year.”
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Stated that Audrey was an amazing leader with a passion for
library services.
VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Appreciates that the board packet and Library newsletter list the
Library’s most requested books. Linda requested the Board discuss changing the time of the Library
Board Meetings at the next meeting. She appreciates that the parking lot has more space since the

COVID testing booth has relocated. Linda shared that she is impressed with how quickly issues with
abandoned property are handled.
CHAIR LAVIGUER: Acknowledged the Heritage Services staff for their outstanding work and
congratulated Heritage Services for being nominated for an award for Society of California
Archivists.

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be April 11, 2022, at the Central Library.
