CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on May 5, 2022, the regular meeting of the Anaheim
Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:07 p.m.
PRESENT:Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan. David Laviguer, Linda Newby
ABSENT:Rose Chen

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends are looking forward
to sponsoring Summer Reading Programs. Their April Book Sale made $338. This sale was
held in the Central Library MPR rather than the sidewalk in front of the Library. The Friends
welcomed two new Board Members, Debi Patterson and Santo DiCamillo.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: No report.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The 25th annual Mystery Author’s
Luncheon was very successful with almost 300 in attendance. Plans for the 2023 Mystery
Author’s Luncheon are underway.
D.COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Robert Hernandez introduced himself as a member of
the public to comment that he would like to see more Library hours of operation restored.
II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 11, 2022 MEETING: The Board voted to amend the
minutes to reflect that Shelby Hogan was present.
III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.
IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.BOOK TO ACTION PROGRAM: Cecilia Chavez, Library Assistant at Haskett Library
presented the Book to Action Program. Cecilia was awarded this grant from the California State
Library while she was a Part-Time Library Assistant and has been recently promoted to Full-
Time Library Assistant. The grant provides funding for programs and books focusing on grief
and mental wellness. The books chosen are “It’s OK that you’re NOT OK” for adults, “Dancing
at the Pity Party” for teens and “Where do they go?” for children. All books will be available in
English and Spanish. Programs include impact of COVID on grief, art journaling, yoga, and
more.

V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
Construction is expected to resume next week on the Central Green Space and Euclid
Programming Space.
Planning has begun to create a Makerspace and Recording Studio at Haskett Library.
The Mother Colony House 165th Anniversary celebration will be held on June 4, 2022.
B.BUDGET: Funding requests have been submitted to Budget.

C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: None.
VII.BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Offered to present programs on dental hygiene.
MEMBER SHELBY HOGAN: None.
VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Attended the Founders’ Park Open House.
CHAIR LAVIGUER: Reminded everyone that the Library is collecting school supplies for children
in foster care.

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be June 13, 2022, at the Haskett Library.
