Parks & Recreation 2021/06/23MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION DOWNTOWN ANAHEIM COMMUNITY CENTER, ASSEMBLY HALL 250 E CENTER ST., ANAHEIM, CA 92805 June 23, 2021 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT: Lynn Cudd, Chair Pamela Galera, Parks Manager Nichole Rupp, Vice Chair Holly Unruh, Community Services Superintendent Ryan Balius JJ Jimenez, Principal Project Planner James Cook (arrived tardy at 6:14 p.m.) Eleanor Granflor, Senior Secretary Tony Flores COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: John Elwell Yogesh Shah A G E N D A A C T I O N T A K E N 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Cudd called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Cudd led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Cudd presented the May 26, 2021 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Vice Chair Rupp made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Balius. The motion was approved with four votes in favor; Chair Cudd accepted the minutes. 6. REPORTS a) Recreation, Human & Neighborhood Services Activity Report – April/May: Holly Unruh presented the report and highlighted the reopening of Tiny Tots Academy and adult sports programs, aquatics at Pearson Park, Anaheim High School, and Canyon High School aquatic programs, day camps, the opening of Maxwell Dog Park, the continuation of Neighborhood Clinics that included food distribution programs and vaccine clinics, the graduation of Project S.A.Y. participants, and the Public Art Plan. Questions were answered regarding the possibility of dog obedience classes. b) Park Ranger Report – May: Holly Unruh presented the report and stated the number of patrons for Aloe Greens is incorrect and should be approximately 1,955. Holly highlighted the number of patrols, patrons, and public contacts made by Park Rangers. Skate Boarding, patrols, public contact and coyote sighting contacts increased from April. c) Parks Capital Project Progress Report: JJ Jimenez presented the report and highlighted the following projects: Cottonwood Park; Center Greens grant funding was approved for $300,000; Prop. 68 grant site visits with the state is scheduled on July 13th; and the St. Jude Medical Clinic at Ponderosa Park. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Chair Cudd reported the CPRS award received for Manzanita Skate Park that was announced in the latest CPRS Magazine. Pamela Galera reported that the City of Anaheim has received an award for the last three years. Pamela Galera reported Sjany Larson-Cash has been selected as the new Community Services Director. Commissioner Cook questioned if the gopher issues are being addressed in Anaheim Hills. Pamela Galera stated the contractors and staff are addressing the issues. Holly Unruh reported the July 4th event will be held at Peralta Park and more information can be found on the Anaheim Hills Community Council’s website. Vice Chair Rupp questioned if the splash pads are open. Pamela Galera stated that splash pads are open at both Miraloma and Ponderosa parks. 8. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Cudd adjourned the meeting at 6:36 p.m.
