COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Kevin Barrot, Elizabeth Jabaz, James Dinwiddie II,

COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Brian O’Neal, Germaine Neumann, Paul Anderson,

I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Lori Dinwiddie called the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC)
meeting to order at 4:18 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2022.
II. FLAG SALUTE
Commissioner James Dinwiddie led the flag salute.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOTION: Did not have a quorum, approval of minutes was continued to the
August 22, 2022 meeting.
IV. APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT
Did not have a quorum, approval of minutes was continued to the August 22,
2022 meeting.
V. MITO VIRTUAL STUDENT EXCHANGE
Chair Lori Dinwiddie spoke to Mr. Wong and wanted to get going on the virtual
exchange, but Chair Lori Dinwiddie explained to him it would not be possible this
year and should move it to the following year. Chair Lori Dinwiddie asked to
have a discussion on the in-person exchange in the near future.

VI. DISCUSS LETTER FROM CITY MANAGER TO VICTORIA-GASTEIZ
Staff member Kimberly explained she did not have copy of letter from City
Manager yet. This will be discussed further at the next meeting on August 22.
VII. DISCUSS UPLOADED AND APPROVED GUIDELINES/APPLICATION FOR
POTENTIAL SISTER CITIES
Per Staff member Kimberly Kelemen, the application is having some technical
difficulties but is working with IT to get it fixed. As of right now, one would
print and scan to Sister City email. Once it is fixed, it will be fillable and ready to
submit online.
VIII. FUNDRAISING
Commissioner Dara Maleki discussed fundraising and getting out to schools about
the student exchange program. He also discussed researching grants to help with
cost. Commissioner Brian Stanley talked about reaching out to Japanese
corporations to help with school items, clothing, or even snacks. Commissioner
Dara Maleki talked about using the FRAN transportation to help with getting the
kids around in the area. Commissioner Dara Maleki stated he along with
Commissioners Taline Cole and Emily Fuentes would be getting together the
following week to discuss potential outreach with hotels, restaurants, etc.
IX. PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
X. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Commissioner Elizabeth Jabaz commented she sent out an email to the Mexican
Consulate regarding possible interested cities to join as a Sister City and a few
cities came back that were interested. Two applications were turned in for the
cities of Oaxaca Mexico and Durango for review. Commissioner Elizabeth Jabaz
further explained she has very close ties to Durango and already has many
contacts if they were to be chosen. Chair Lori Dinwiddie made a comment and
agreed with Commissioner Dara Maleki that there should be and will be some
research on the safety and risk factors in the cities that are or will be reviewed.
Chair Lori Dinwiddie requested this discussion to be put on the agenda for the
following month for a possible guest representative from Oaxaca Mexico in the
near future.
