asked to wait and talk about it again toward September and now looking into
2024. In addition, Chair Lori Dinwiddie along with Commissioner Jim Dinwiddie
are trying to figure out timing since we are on opposite time clocks.
VI. DISCUSS LETTER FROM CITY MANAGER TO VICTORIA-GASTEIZ
Commissioners that were present reviewed a sample of a past letter for Assistant
City Manager Greg Garcia to send to new contact along with some Anaheim
items in hopes to continue communication and relationship.
VII. DISCUSS APPLICATIONS FOR OAXACA AND DURANGO AND NEXT
STEPS
Chair Lori Dinwiddie confirmed with Commissioner Elizabeth Jabaz if she will
be the main contact for both the cities of Oaxaca and Durango. Commissioner
Elizabeth Jabaz confirmed. She went on to explain that September 15 is election
time for the City of Durango. She was asked to hold off on the process until after
elections. Chair Lori Dinwiddie then asked Commissioner Elizabeth Jabaz to do a
presentation for the Commission at an upcoming meeting soon as she is ready.
VIII. FUNDRAISING
Commissioner LaShe informed the Commission about planned fundraiser October
19, 2022 at the Anaheim Hotel. They are also working on a sponsorship letter to
send out to local businesses and contacts. Commissioner LaShay suggested a
$10,000 Fundraising goal to try and cover as much as possible for the students.
Based on Commissioner comments, Commissioner Dara Maleki suggested raising
it to $25,000. Commissioner LaShay suggests reaching out and focusing on past
host families and/or students to bring light to what the Sister City Student
Exchange works and their experience. Commissioner Dara Maleki brought up the
question of outreach and how far out will they be reaching out to, since Anaheim
School District goes outside of the City. The rule is it needs to be within the
Anaheim School District and an Anaheim resident to be eligible.
