Dear Members of the Anaheim City Council,
I am writing to you as a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 7, and a working
musician at Disneyland. Today, you are discussing the Disneyland Forward Initiative, an important
project that will shape the future of our beloved park. I stand with my union siblings to offer provisional
support for this expansion, contingent upon specific assurances from both Disney and this Council.
We ask the City Council to ensure that:
1. All current and future musicians employed at any part of the Disneyland Resort are union
musicians, covered under the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
2. Musicians currently working at the Disneyland Resort, including those at Downtown Disney, are
classified as employees rather than independent contractors or third-party vendors.
3. The welfare and working conditions of musicians and all entertainers are prioritized in the
construction plans for the expansion. This includes adequate break rooms, secure instrument
storage, and safe performance spaces.
4. These commitments are formalized in writing to safeguard the interests and safety of all present
and future Disneyland musicians.
These conditions are essential for supporting the Disneyland Forward Initiative. They ensure that the
musicians and artists, who are integral to the Disney experience, have their rights and working conditions
respected.
Thank you for considering our stance. We trust that you will make decisions that honor the contributions
of all workers at Disneyland, ensuring that the park remains a place of joy and creativity for everyone.
Sincerely,
Evan Walsh
