Hello,
I’m Scott Johnson, a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 7. I am a working musician at
Disneyland, never been able to receive full time pay or benefits even when I’m working full time because some
of the work is “third-party / contract work.”
I will only support the DisneylandForward Initiative IF…
1.
2.
3. this City Council demands that all current and future musicians
4. working in any portion of the Disneyland Resort are union musicians working under the agreed upon
Collective Bargaining Agreement;
5.
6.
7.
8. this City Council demands that working musicians currently employed
9. at the Disneyland Resort, including Downtown Disney, are no longer misclassified as independent
contractors or third-party vendors;
10.
11.
12.
13. this City Council demands the welfare and working conditions of
14. the musicians and all entertainment are included in Disneyland construction plans with adequate
breakrooms, instrument storage, and safe performance spaces;
15.
16.
17.
18. and that these commitments are put in writing to ensure the safety
19. of all current and future Disneyland musicians.
20.
Thank you for your time and we sincerely urge you to consider the working conditions and livelihood of the
musicians and artists that play a pivotal part in the Disney environment and experience.
Most sincerely,
1

P.S. If Disney can spend $40 million on a 1,500 ft road, then they can provide safe working conditions, break
conditions, and proper wages (as employees) for entertainers/musicians. After all, musicians are the only
REAL thing left in the park. Do you remember the wonder of seeing live music? I hope you are guided by a
vision of long-term well-being for Disneyland employees … not meager survival while their executives increase
their personal salaries exponentially each year. Thank you Anaheim for valuing the workers who make this a
great city.
