CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on October 6, 2022, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:31 p.m.
PRESENT: Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan, David Laviguer, Linda Newby
STAFF: Audrey Lujan — City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx — PT Management Assistant
L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends are celebrating
their 581' anniversary of their incorporation on October 24- 2022. They were very happy to learn
that Central Library and Haskett Branch Library will be reopening on Saturdays. The Friends
made $327 from their September book sale. They are honoring Jennie Van Delden who was a
member of the Friends for 40 years and served as Treasurer for 26 years with a special plaque to
be placed in the Friends' book nook. The Friends have added an additional board member.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: The Friends of Canyon Hills Library
(FOCAL) delivered checks to nine different schools in Anaheim. They were able to repeat this
successful effort from last year and managed to increase the amount of their donations.
Teachers were very appreciative of the cash donations which allows them to expand their library
of books to continue keeping their students enthusiastic about reading! FOCAL raises funds
through the sale of donated materials that are not able to be used in the collection. Their latest
Flash Sale was held October 61'-71'.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation's 2023 Mystery
Author's Luncheon is scheduled for April 30, 2023. The price will be $75 per person or $700
for a table of 10.
D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 12, 2022 MEETING: The minutes were
approved as presented.

IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. ELECTION OF CHAIR: MOTION: That the Library Board nominate and elect David
Laviguer as Chair of the Library Board for a term through October 2023. M/S: SH/MD, 5
ayes.
B. ELECTION OF VICE CHAIR: MOTION: That the Library Board nominate and elect
Linda Newby as Vice Chair of the Library Board for a term through October 2023. M/S:
DL/SH, 5 ayes.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• The report to City Council on the Condition of the Libraries is listed as a receive and file item
on the October 25, 2022 City Council Agenda.
• Central and Ponderosa Joint -Use Libraries will resume Saturday hours on November 51'.
Haskett Branch Library is delayed due to recruitment challenges.
• Indie Author Day will be held on Saturday, November 51 at Central Library.
• The Central Green Space is almost completed.
• Progress is being made on the Euclid Programming space.
• Additional funding is still being sought for the Haskett Makerspace project.
• Audrey shared the Collection Development Policy and the process for contested library
materials. The policy will be updated to include the revised American Library Association
Bill of Rights Freedom to Read statement.

C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The
Board recognized Katie Hernandez from the AESD for her work on the Creative Writing Project
and Library staff member Veronica Castillo for her outstanding customer service.
