CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on December 8, 2022, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:34 p.m.
PRESENT:Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, David Laviguer, Linda Newby
ABSENT:Shelby Hogan
STAFF:Audrey Lujan – City Librarian, Jane Newell – Library Services Manager,
Joe Purtell – Supervising Librarian, Jennifer Foxx – PT Management Assistant
I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:

A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends celebrated the 58
.
anniversary of their incorporation on October 24,2022. Money donated in the memory of
Jennie Van Delden will be used to pay for a plaque in her honor as well as special projects. The
Friends have pledged over $16,000in funding for 2023. They will be having monthly book
sales to increase revenue. Gloria Keene, longtime member of the Friends and a former Librarian
for APL passed away unexpectedly.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: The Friends of Canyon Hills Library
(FOCAL) wish Cynthia Hicks well in her retirement. FOCAL welcomed new East Region

Supervising Librarian, April Ray. They held their annual Christmas Party December 4, at the
Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church. FOCAL has selected a new logo, the old logo was 10 or
more years old and in need of some updating. Please go to Friends of the Canyon Hills Library
onFacebook and “Like it” to increase exposure.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation’s 2023 Mystery
Author’s Luncheon is scheduled for April 30, 2023. The Foundation thanks Alessandra
Gonzalez, Library Communications Specialist II for doing a wonderful job with the invitations,
publicity, etc.

II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 10, 2022 MEETING: The minutes were approved
as presented.
III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.

IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY COLLECTION POLICY: Joe Purtell presented the updated
Anaheim Public Library Collection Policy. MOTION: That the Library Board approve the
Anaheim Public Library Collection Policy as presented. M/S: LN/RC, 4 ayes.
B.LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING SCHEDULE: MOTION: That the Library
Board approve the Library Board of Trustees Meeting Schedule for 2023 as presented.
M/S: RC/LN, 4 ayes.
V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
Haskett Library partnered with Grandma’s House of Hope in the past to distribute bags of
food. Grandma’s House of Hope has run out of food and will not be partnering with Haskett
Library for the time being.
The Library and Anaheim Police Department are continuing their partnership and will be
updating the Leadership Library.
Haskett Library will resume Saturday hours in January, an exact date will be announced.
Audrey thanked the Library Board Members for serving as judges for the Creative Writing
Project.
B.BUDGET: Staff is working on mid-year projections.

MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Asked if APL offers a digital Library card.
MEMBER ROSE CHEN: None.
VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Invited everyone to attend the APD, "The Policing of Tomorrow"
presentation, January 5, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at the Police Department’s main station auditorium

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be January 9, 2023, at the Central Library.
