CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on April 6, 2023, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:30 p.m.
PRESENT:Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan, David Laviguer, Linda Newby
ABSENT:Rose Chen
STAFF:Audrey Lujan – City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx – PT Management Assistant, Monica
Sanchez – Principal Librarian
I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Their next monthly outdoor
sale is March 17, 2023.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: The April Flash Sale was a success.
FOCAL received an award from the City of Anaheim for their volunteer efforts. They
purchased a puppet stage for Canyon’s new Children’s Librarian, Jenn De-Baun-Holm. She did
a very creative and well received show for Canyon’s littlest patrons last week.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: Tickets for the APL Foundation’s
2023Mystery Author’s Luncheon on April 30, 2023 are still on sale through Eventbrite. More
information is available at www.anaheimlibraryfoundation.com.
D.COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MARCH 13, 2023 MEETING: The minutes were approved as
presented.
III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.
IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.EUCLID CHILDREN’S ROOM REDESIGN: Monica Sanchez presented the plans and
Enchanted Forest décor for the Euclid Children’s Room redesign. The Grand Reveal
will be May 6, 2023, and will have crafts, storytimes, giveaways, photo opportunities,
and more.

V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
Anaheim Public Library is a finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Services
for 2023 from the National Institute of Museum and Library Service. This is a highly
competitive award. There are only 30 finalists out of 172,000 libraries and museums that
qualify across the nation.
Audrey Lujan presented the Board Members with certificates of recognition for their
volunteer service to the Library Board from the City of Anaheim.

Central Library will be celebrating its 60 Anniversary in August with programs, events, etc.
David Laviguer is moving out of state at the end of April. Audrey thanked David for his
many years of service to the Anaheim Public Library and Anaheim Public Library
Foundation.
Heritage Services is developing a seed exchange at Founders’ Park.
B.BUDGET: Staff is working diligently on budget.
VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.STATISTICS: None.
B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: In person statistics are rising as virtual statistics slightly decline since
all libraries being reopened after Coved closures.
C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: None.
VII.BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER SHELBY HOGAN: Recognized Anaheim Public Library staff and Audrey for growing
and thriving and coming out of COVID stronger than before.
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Requested information on the gardening project, farm to table
program at Central Library. Michelle thanked David for his service and complimented Audrey for
not saying no to ideas and taking the good ideas and flying with them. She also appreciates the
ability to share ’s online resources internationally.
VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Received the Happy Library Anniversary email and was touched.
She was also impressed with the Wildlife Wednesday program at East Anaheim Branch Library.
CHAIR LAVIGUER: Enjoyed each and every moment he has spent on the Board. Libraries are a
passion of his and he will miss Anaheim Public Library. “ I’ve been on Board with other City
Librarians and Audrey is by far the best at the running of the library. She doesn’t run the library,
she lets the staff run the library. I believe the library will have more awards.”

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be May 8, 2023, at the Central Library.
B.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
