CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on June 8, 2023, the regular meeting of the Anaheim
Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Vice Chair Newby at 4:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan, Linda Newby
STAFF: Audrey Lujan — City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx — PT Management Assistant,
Scott Fretwell - Principal Librarian, Jon Andersen - Librarian
L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The monthly sales are doing
well. They received a donation of several hundred mystery books from Kevin Moore to be sold
in the Book Nook. The Friends Books for the Jail program is coming along.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: FOCAL will be selling jewelry donated by
the family of a Catherine St. Clair, former Librarian in the East Region, who passed away last
year.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: Staff presented their wish list for
funding to the Foundation at their May meeting. The Foundation Board will vote on the
requests in June.
D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MAY 8, 2023 MEETING: The minutes were approved as
presented.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. INFOGRAPHICS: APL CARD HOLDERS BY INCOME: Scott Fretwell and Jon
Andersen presented card holder demographics by education level and household income
level. These infographics are used by library staff to evaluate where more services and
marketing is needed.
B. ELECTION OF CHAIR: Postponed to the July 2023 Meeting.

V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• The annual Staff Development Day will be held on June 16, 2023. The Libraries are closed
so that all staff can attend. Staff will be trained on new software, customer service, etc. Joe
Purtell secured funding from the Anaheim Community Foundation to fund implementation
of staff's creative ideas for programming for the community.
• Additional weekend hours begin July 1, 2023.
• Anaheim Public Library won two American Library Association PR Xchange Awards.
One for the 2022 Summer Reading Program Video and the second for the design of the
2022 APL Foundations Mystery Authors Luncheon promotional materials.
• Thanks to the Mayor Pro Tem Natalie Rubalcava, the Library was able to host "A People's
Guide to Orange County with Gustavo Arellano and Elaine Lewinnek." In addition, Mayor
Pro Tem Rubalcava worked with Charter Communications (Spectrum) to donate iPads for
iPad Art Workshop. Charter Communications provided refreshments during the June 21,
2023 workshop. Matthew Worden, Part -Time Library Technician, teaches this very
popular monthly workshop.
B. BUDGET: The budget is being presented to City Council in June.

A. STATISTICS: None.
B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The
Board recognized Varsity Burger and Disney for their continuous support throughout the years.
Kevin Moore was recognized for her donation of many books for the collection and to the
Friends of Anaheim Public Library.
VIL BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER ROSE CHEN: None.
MEMBER SHELBY HOGAN: None.
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Recommended Chinese books be added to Tumblebooks. She also
requested a demonstration on how to change the way the online calendar is viewed.

VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Noted that the calendar on the City's website is mostly Anaheim
Public Library Programs. Linda enjoyed A Peoples Guide to Orange County with Authors Gustavo
Arellano and Elaine Lewinnek Program at Central Library. She was happy to find lots of flyers
available advertising the Summer Reading Programs throughout APL during her visit to Central
Library.

A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be July 10, 2023, at the Central Library.
B. ADJOURNMENT: Vice Chair Newby adjourned the meeting at 5:40 p.m.
