September 15, 2022

1. CALL TO ORDER: Vice-Chair McCracken called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Chair McCracken led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of
Allegiance.
3. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Vice-Chair McCracken presented the minutes of the July 21, 2022
meeting. Commissioner Vicknair mentioned that his term
wish to remain after that date; Wendy Hernandez thanked him. Commissioner Vicknair made a motion
for approval of the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Shah. Minutes were approved with five ayes.
4. PUBLIC COMMENTS:
Joe Pak from Sharon Quirk-
any travel beginning next year. He also announced a community meeting sponsored by
Assembly Member Quirk-Silva on September 8 in Buena Park.
5. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Update on Center Greens Improvement Ana Straabe, Parks Principal Project Planner, provided
an update on the improvements being done at Center Greens, a 3-1/2 acre site behind the
Community Center which was originally slated to be a housing development. After meeting with the
community a master plan was completed and Schmidt Design Group was hired to incorporate the
desired amenities in the design. They received a federal grant as well as Rivers & Mountains
Conservancy state funding. Phase 1, , is currently being constructed in
conjunction with KABOOM! and Phase 2 will include a loop walkway, a shaded plaza, a skate park,
basketball court, challenge course for youth and adults, and a butterfly garden for a nature
component. Ms. Straabe answered questions from commissioners about the project and
commissioners voiced concerns about the homeless population.
B. Presentation on Orange County Korean War Memorial: Commissioner Real described his
background in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and the presentation he does for high
school students to provide a living history for them. He described the monument that was put in at
Hillcrest Park in Fullerton to honor those who fought and died in the Korean War. Joe Pak
described the stars in the monument and shared a video of the unveiling ceremony.

A. Wendy Hernandez announced that at the November meeting she will be taking a photograph of the
Commission to have for the record.
9. ADJOURNMENT: Vice-Chair McCracken adjourned the meeting at 3:18 p.m.
