CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on October 5, 2023, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Board Chair Linda Newby at 4:32 p.m.
PRESENT:Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia
STAFF:Audrey Lujan – City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx – PT Management Assistant
I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The September sale raised over
th
$500.00.The next sale is October 20, 2023. The Friends will celebrate their 59 Anniversary at
their next meeting on October 23, 2023.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Their monthly Flash Sales this year have
helped to fund the new mural in the Children’s area, Teddy Bear Picnic, and Home to Hogwarts
to name just a few! They have also given scholarships to library staff and Canyon High Seniors.
In October they will have BOO-k Sale and BOO-TIQUE with plenty of books, Jigsaw puzzles,
CD’s,Blu-rays, DVDs, and holiday items as a prelude to the holiday season. Upcoming Flash
Sales dates are October 17-18, 2023, and November 28-29, 2023. The November sale will
feature Christmas books, jewelry, gift items, and an entire set of Department 56 Christmas
Villages. Like them on Facebook as Friends of the Canyon Hills Library.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation has confirmed all
authors for their Mystery Authors Luncheon on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Sheraton. The
theme for 2024 is “True Crime” with Deborah Holt Larkin, author of “A Lovely Girl: The
Tragedy of Olga Duncan,” James T Bartlett, author of “The Alaskan Blonde: The Hollywood
Story that Shocked America,” and Jillian Lauren, author of “Behold the Monster.” They are
working with Joseph Ngyuen, library employee, on a fall 2024 fundraiser at the Anaheim House
of Blues. Stay tuned for more details!

II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE SEPTMBER 11, 2023 MEETING: The minutes were
approved as presented.
III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION OF
THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022/23 PER ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS
AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908: . MOTION: That the Board approve the Report to
City Council on the Condition of the Libraries for Fiscal Year 2022/23 as revised: M/S
RC/LN, 5 ayes.

IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.LIBRARY BOARD PRESENTATION TO CITY COUNCIL IN FEBRUARY 2024: The
Library Board will be making a presentation to the City Council to introduce the Library Board,
discuss their roles and duties, and provide an update on Library programs and services.
V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The Library continues to recruit for many part-time positions to cover for the seven days of
service offered at several Anaheim Public Library locations.
B.BUDGET: None.
VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.STATISTICS: None.
B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS:
Appreciates the responsiveness of Library staff to the Library Board’s questions.
VII.BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: Thanked staff for the amazing Hispanic Heritage Month
Programming being offered.
MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: Plans to give the new Public Information Officer for the Anaheim
Elementary School District a tour of the libraries.
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Thanked the Library staff for everything they do; and is impressed
with the quality of programs that are offered for free to the community.
VICE CHAIR ROSE CHEN: Is impressed by Library staff and Audrey as the senior management
responsible for the libraries.
CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Believes Audrey is the reason for the retention of staff at the Library as
she gives staff opportunities to present and implement their ideas.
VIII.MISCELLANEOUS
A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be November 13, 2023, at the Central Library.
B.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Newby adjourned the meeting at 5:45 p.m.
