Broadway Anaheim, CA 92805 ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES DATE/TIME February 12, 2024 4:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on February 8, 2024; the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Vice Chair Rose Chen at 4:32 p.m. PRESENT: Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, Jackie Filbeck, Elia Renteria-Garcia ABSENT: Linda Newby STAFF: Thomas Edelblute — Senior Library Services Manager, Alessandra Gonzalez — Communications Specialist II, Julie Conn — Library Services Supervisor, Jennifer Foxx — PT Management Assistant L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends have added two new Board members, Will Cote and Alan Greenberg. The January Book Sale made $253.15. The next book sale is February 16, 2024. The book sales are listed in BookSaleFinder.com and they have people who come from as far San Bernardino. The Friends are planning to get a memorial plaque to honor their deceased members. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: They approved funding for a Marvel Madness Event at Canyon Hills Branch Library. Loren Fry, husband of member Lousie Fry built two bookshelves for the children's section. Their next flash sale is February 21-22, 2024 and will include a boutique corner. The Friends of Canyon Hills Library have paid to have custom FOCAL shirts made for their members. They will attend the APL Foundation Mystery Authors Luncheon on March 17, 2024. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The 271' Annual Anaheim Public Library Foundation Mystery Authors Luncheon is March 17, 2024 at the Anaheim Sheraton Hotel. Moderator Wendall Thomas will be leading a panel of True Crime authors Jillian Lauren, James T. Bartlett, and Deborah Holt Larkin. In addition to the live auction, there will be silent auction baskets and a wine table. Tickets for the event can be found on the APLF website www.anaheimlibrarvfoundation.com. Individual tickets are $85 and a table is $800. They look forward to seeing you there. D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 8, 2024 MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting February 12, 2024 Page 2 III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. LIBRARY BOARD PRESENTATION TO CITY COUNCIL: Alessandra presented a draft of the Library Board PowerPoint presentation to City Council. The Library Board requested to add more pictures and information regarding the diversity of programs. A revised presentation will be presented at the March Library Board Meeting. The presentation to City Council is scheduled for March 26, 2024. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. LIBRARY FINES/FEES: Julie Conn shared that the Library would like to propose the elimination of overdue fines and DVD rental fees beginning July 1, 2024. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • Tom shared the modified check-out receipt. Modifications include adding the phone number for the issuing library location and removal of patron information. B. BUDGET: Planning is underway for the Fiscal Year 2024/25 budget year. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTICS: None. B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Library Board recognized Charles Fitzwater for exhibiting extraordinary civic responsibility and contributions in keeping Anaheim Central Library a safe and welcoming library.
