Broadway Anaheim, CA 92805 ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES DATE/TIME March 11, 2024 4:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on March 7, 2024; the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Linda Newby at 4:32 p.m. PRESENT: Rose Chen, Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia ABSENT: Michelle Dang STAFF: Joe Purtell —Library Services Manager, Jennifer Foxx — PT Management Assistant GUEST: Charles Fitzwater L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The February Book Sale made $345.60. The next book sale is March 15, 2024, and children's books will be free. In April the price for a bag of books will be raised from $1.50 to $2.00. They will also move their sales back outside in April. The Friends have purchased a table for the APL Foundation's Mystery Authors Luncheon and are looking forward to attending. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Their next flash sale is March 26 — 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. at the Canyon Hills Branch Library. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The 271' Annual Anaheim Public Library Foundation Mystery Authors Luncheon is March 17, 2024. They look forward to seeing you there. D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: The Library Board presented Charles Fitzwater with a Library Board Certificate of Recognition for exhibiting extraordinary civic responsibility and consistently helping keep Anaheim Central Library a safe and welcoming library. IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 12, 2024 MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. LIBRARY BOARD PRESENTATION TO CITY COUNCIL: Joe presented the final draft of the Library Board of Trustees presentation to City Council. The presentation to City Council is scheduled for March 26, 2024. B. LIBRARY FINES/FEES: MOTION: That the Library Board approve and support Library Staff's recommendation that the Anaheim Public Library eliminate overdue fines and CD/DVD/Blu-ray rental fees beginning Fiscal Year 2024/25. M/S: ER/RC, 4 ayes. ITEM # 01 Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting March 11, 2024 Page 2 IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. COMPUTER USE POLICY: Joe presented a revised Computer Use Policy to the Library Board. Revisions from the previous policy included removing language restricting the use of computers if a patron has a balance of $15.00 or more, extending computer use minimum time limits, and adding Ponderosa Joint -Use Branch Library to the list of locations that provide wireless access to patrons. MOTION: That the Library Board approve the revised Computer Use Policy as presented. M/S: RC/JF, 4 ayes. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • AnaCon is scheduled for April 27, 2024, and will feature authors, panels, and special guest speaker Bob Gurr, an original Disney Imagineer. • The winter reading program had 553 more participants than last year with a 3% increase in completion rate. • Central Library had a winter reading finale parry with almost 450 in attendance. The parry included a petting zoo thanks to funding from the Friends of Anaheim Public Library. • The Poet Laureate Committee will be meeting on March 19, 2024. B. BUDGET: The budget for Fiscal Year 2024/25 has been submitted to the Finance Department. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTICS: None. B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Library Board recognized Reon Boydstun-Howard for supporting and promoting library programs. VIL BOARD ITEMS MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: None. MEMBER JACKIE FIL,BECK: Enjoyed participating in Read Across America Week and is looking forward to the Anaheim Public Library Foundation's Mystery Authors Luncheon. VICE CHAIR ROSE CHEN: None. CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Looking forward to the Anaheim Public Library Foundation Mystery Authors Luncheon and seeing how it is different from previous years as this year's focus is on true crime.
