Library 2024/05/13ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MEETING LOCATION Central Library 500 W. Broadway Anaheim, CA 92805 DATE/TIME May 13, 2024 4:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on May 9, 2024; the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Linda Newby at 4:31 p.m. PRESENT: Michelle Dang, Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia ABSENT: Rose Chen GUEST: Wendy Van Camp STAFF: Audrey Lujan — City Librarian, Scott Fretwell — Principal Librarian, Jennifer Foxx — PT Management Assistant INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The April Book Sale made $443.00. The next book sale is May 19, 2024, in the multi -purpose room. DVDs will be half- price. The Friends will be hosting a Friends of Libraries meeting for various Friends groups in the area in June or July. They officially welcomed a new Board Member, Jennifer Martinez this month. Preparations are being made for the Friends' 601' Anniversary of Incorporation in October. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: FOCAL is once again offering scholarships for student library volunteers. Their next flash sales are May 22-23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. and June 18-19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m. They will have their first -ever lawn sale on July 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: None. D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: The Library Board presented Wendy Van Camp with a Library Board Certificate of Recognition for Camp for her outstanding efforts as Anaheim's Poet Laureate for 2022-2024. IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 8, 2024 MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV. NEW BUSINESS: FOREIGN LANGUAGE BOOKS/PRINT AND ONLINE RESOURCES: ONLINE NON- RESIDENT USAGE FEE CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Scott Fretwell presented collection holdings and circulation statistics on what foreign language materials are offered and languages spoken at home in Anaheim. ITEM # 03 Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting May 13, 2024 Page 2 V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Audrey thanked Public Works employees for their work on the Canyon Hills Branch Library garden and beautiful gate. AnaCon attendance increased by 200 from last year. There was a lot of participation in the panels and workshops. Raising Canes is a major sponsor/partner for the upcoming Summer Reading Program. B. BUDGET: The budget for Fiscal Year 2024/25 has been submitted to the Finance Department. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTICS: None. B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Library Board recognized Haskett Library staff members for their bracelet -making event and Angelica Sauceda for putting together the Early Educators Event. Jackie recognized Katie Filbeck, Juan Alvarez, and Jesse Alvarez for Operation Literacy for repurposing books and getting them back into the community. VIL BOARD ITEMS MEMBER JACKIE FIL,BECK: Assured the Library Board that the relationship with the Library will be of the utmost importance as AESD searches for a new Superintendent. She enjoyed AnaCon and was impressed with the attendance. MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: Appreciated the staff work that went into hosting the Early Educators Event. MICHELLE DANG: Requested an update on the Lunch at the Library gardening program. She enjoys visiting the various Anaheim Public Library branches to see the different programs being offered. CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Announced for the record that the Library won the ALA PR Xchange Award — External Communications for the monthly e-Newsletter. VIII. MISCELLANEOUS A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be June 10, 2024, at the Canyon Hills Branch Library. B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Newby adjourned the meeting at 5:18 p.m.
