Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, California BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT Linda Barnett, Chair Steve Kleine, Vice -Chair Laura Banker-Jelensky Shandra Barrera Steven Douglas Usha Shah BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT None May 9, 2024 — 5:30 p.m. STAFF Joe Perez, Community Services Manager Julia Moreno, Community Services Supervisor Barbara Leggett, Senior Secretary AGENDA ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER: The Community Services Board meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m. by Chair Barnett. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Barnett led the Board in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Barnett presented the April 11, 2024, meeting minutes to Board Members for changes and/or corrections. Board Member Banker-Jelensky made a motion to approve the April 11, 2024, meeting minutes, seconded by Board Member Klein; the motion was approved with six votes in favor. Chair Barnett accepted the minutes. 6. NEW BUSINESS: a) Mid -Year Non -Profit Agency Report 1) Creative Identity • Dr. Cynthia Smith, Program Director at Creative Identity gave a program update on Creative Identity. She introduced the founder, Mr. George Gilliam. Dr. Smith shared about the programming offered that includes therapeutic music and expressive arts programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They also host four classes per day; ceramics, expressive arts, music performance, and life skills, where they rotate through classes to cultivate life skills. b) Community Services Manager, Joe Perez announced that the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Anaheim/Cypress had an emergency and would not be able to be in attendance to provide a presentation. They will be rescheduled. c) Anaheim Community Foundation Needs Assessment survey update. • Joe Perez gave an update on the Needs Assessment Survey, which officially closed on May 5, 2024. He shared the consultant was pleased with the process and has begun the survey vetting process. Joe concluded by sharing that the second phase of the survey implementation had begun with focus group workshops being held for the Youth & Families and Older Adults groups. 7. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Joe Perez informed the group of the upcoming Children's Festival on May 18th, 11 a.m. — 3 p.m. Joe Perez gave an update on the success of Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and shared the quoted attendance for Sunday's attendance was over 13,000 participants. Joe Perez was asked to update the group on the Youth Council. Joe indicated that the youth advisory council was doing well. He shared they have a meeting scheduled on 5/20/2 whereby this group would be participating in the ACF survey assessment as a focus group. He closed by reminder the board that the group is composed of three youth from each Council district and that they meet monthly on the second Monday of every month at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center. 9. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Barnett reported that with no new business, the next Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., would be dark. The next scheduled meeting will be hosted on July 11th at 5:30 p.m. Joe Perez commented that the July meeting is mandatory and they will be holding elections for Chair and Vice Chair for the following fiscal year. Chair Barnett adjourned the meeting at 6:05 p.m.
