ORANGEWOOD AVE., ANAHEIM, CA 92802 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Lynn Cudd, Chair Nichole Rupp, Vice Chair Ryan Balius James Cook COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Tony Flores Yogesh Shah AGENDA April 27, 2022 STAFF PRESENT: Anaheim Sporn, Community Services Manager JJ Jimenez, Parks Manager Ana Straabe, Principal Project Planner Eleanor Granflor, Senior Secretary STAFF ABSENT: Sjany Larson -Cash, Director ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Cudd called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Cook led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Cudd presented the March 23, 2022 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Vice Chair Rupp made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Cook. The motion was approved with four votes in favor; Chair Cudd accepted the minutes. 6. REPORTS: a) Recreation, Human & Neighborhood Services Activity Report— February/March: Anaheim Sporn presented the report and highlighted the youth programs: S.T.A.R.S., Fun on Wheels and Tiny Tots Academy, rentals at the community centers, sports clinics, Active Older Adult Programming, the Summer Nights under the Stars series at Pearson Park Amphitheatre, Oak Canyon Nature Center programs, the annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, the continuation of food distributions, the Mobile Health Clinic, Emergency Preparedness programs, Project S.A.Y. programs, VITA Tax Services, Teen Sports, the Anaheim Boxing Club, Project S.A.Y. Folklorico, Neighborhood Services community meetings and outreach, and upcoming events and activities. Questions were answered regarding the summer concert events to be held at other venues and food distributions. b) Park Ranger Report — March: Anaheim Sporn presented the report and highlighted the number of patrols, patrons, public contacts, curfew and alcohol contacts made by Park Rangers. There was an increase in numbers from February to March due to warmer weather. The Park Ranger section will continue to hire new staff in order to maximize the number of patrols. Questions were answered regarding the number of dogs off the leash. Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes April 27, 2022 Page 2 c) Parks Capital Project Progress Report: JJ Jimenez provided a brief overview of the facilities and services at Ponderosa Park. JJ also presented the report and highlighted the following projects: Brookhurst Teen Center, KABOOM! playground at Center Greens, KABOOM! playground at Rio Vista Park, and River Park. Questions were answered regarding playground equipment and the Design Day event held for Rio Vista Park. 7. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Anaheim Sporn reported the Cinco de Mayo event will be held at La Palma Park April 28-May 1 and staff is preparing for the Children's Art Festival that will be held on May 21. JJ Jimenez reported the following staff reports will be going to City Council for approval: funding for La Palma Park, grant application for parks central irrigation system, and the extension of agreement with Lyons Security. s.
