Parks & Recreation 2022/05/25MINUTES COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Lynn Cudd, Chair Nichole Rupp, Vice Chair James Cook Tony Flores Yogesh Shah COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Ryan Balius PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION DOWNTOWN ANAHEIM COMMUNITY CENTER 250 E CENTER ST., ANAHEIM, CA 92805 May 25, 2022 STAFF PRESENT: Sjany Larson -Cash, Director Anaheim Sporn, Community Services Manager JJ Jimenez, Parks Manager Ana Straabe, Principal Project Planner Eleanor Granflor, Senior Secretary AGENDA ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Cudd called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Cook led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Commissioner Cook stated resident, Megan Fox, will be contacting staff regarding playground equipment that was removed at Riverdale Park. 4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Cudd presented the April 27, 2022 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Vice Chair Rupp made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Yogesh. The motion was approved with five votes in favor; Chair Cudd accepted the minutes. 6. REPORTS: a) Parks Activity Report — March/April: JJ Jimenez presented the report and highlighted the deep cleaning of facilities, restrooms and picnic areas, wood chip installation in playground areas with the help of Love Anaheim, adjustment of irrigation schedules and security lighting, replacement of park signage, the volunteer event that was held at John Marshall Park in conjunction with UPS and Council Member Ma'ae, participation of the TreePower Program at community events, and Easter egg hunt special events. b) Park Ranger Report — April: Anaheim Sporn presented the report and highlighted the number of curfew, alcohol, and public assist contacts made by Park Rangers. There was a decrease in numbers of patrols due to low staffing, and an increase in vendor contacts due to more patrons in the parks with the warmer weather. Questions were answered regarding the number of coyote sightings and possible substance abuse. c) Parks Capital Project Progress Report: Ana Straabe presented the report and highlighted the following projects: Brookhurst Teen Center, Center Greens including the KABOOM! playground, and Rio Vista Park Improvements including the KABOOM! playground. Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes May 25, 2022 Page 2 NEW BUSINESS: a) FY 2022/2023 Proposed Budget Summary: Sjany Larson -Cash presented the FY 2022/23 Proposed Budget Summary. Vice Chair Rupp made a motion to review and consider the Park Maintenance Services, Human and Neighborhood Services, Recreation Services, and Capital Improvement Projects budget components of the Community Services Department's FY 2022/2023 Budget, seconded by Commissioner Cook. There were five votes in favor; motion was accepted by Chair Cudd s. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Ana Straabe shared information for the KABOOM! Build Day at Rio Vista Park on June 30th. Anaheim Sporn reported the Neighborhood Services District Community meetings will begin next week, the first Summer Concert will be held at Pearson Park Amphitheatre on May 28th, and the Summer Family Nights and concerts that will be held this summer. 9.
