ANAHEIM BLVD., ANAHEIM, CA 92805 December 6, 2023 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT: Ryan Balius, Chair Sjany Larson -Cash, Director Fred Sigala, Jr. Anaheim Sporn, Community Services Manager CarlottaRhea Clark JJ Jimenez, Parks Manager James Cook Ana Straabe, Principal Project Planner Lynn Cudd Marissa Granados, Community Services Coordinator Greg Martin Jennifer Dobkins, Senior Secretary AGENDA ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Balius called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Cook led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Balius presented the October 25, 2023 Minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Commissioner Clark made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Sigala. The motion was approved with 6 votes in favor; Chair Balius accepted the minutes. 6. REPORTS: a) Park Ranger Report — October: Anaheim Sporn presented the report and updated the commission on Park Ranger recruitment efforts. Over 100 additional applications were received for the Park Ranger position, 54 passed initial qualification checks, 29 were invited to interview and 14 candidates were offered positions. The new hires bring the department closer to the goal of 15 new Park Rangers. Anaheim also noted an increase in patron counts in the parks because of increased staffing levels. Questions were answered regarding city -run sports programs in West Anaheim. b) Parks Activity Report —September/October: JJ Jimenez presented the report and highlighted signage improvements in Central Anaheim, park amenity paint refreshes, Glover Stadium events, trail maintenance and fire clearance in East Anaheim. He also highlighted the outreach efforts of the Tree Power Program and the activities supported by facility scheduling. Questions were answered regarding trees on parkways, drinking fountains in the park, after hours maintenance responses, athletic field renovations and dog park turf. c) Parks Capital Project Progress Report: Ana Straabe presented the report and highlighted the Brookhurst Teen Center, KABOOM! at Peter Marshall Park, Oak Canyon Nature Center renovations, Paul Revere improvements, and Rio Vista Park improvements. Questions were answered regarding the surfacing material at Paul Revere Park, KABOOM! schedule, and Rio Vista Park improvements. Questions were answered about how the sites are chosen for the meetings. Anaheim Sporn provided the Winter Activity Guide and reminded the commission of the Nutcracker Holiday Village and Tree Lighting. 8.
