Subject:\[EXTERNAL\] VOTE NO on SALT's Rezoning Proposal for Deer Canyon

I am writing you to express my concern and opposition to the proposed rezoning and ~500 unit multi-
family development in Anaheim Hills by the SALT Corporation.
My family and I have been residents of Anaheim Hills for over 15 years and chose this
community as our home for a multitude of reasons including access and proximity to
undeveloped natural habitats including Deer Canyon, the beautiful hills that surround us,
and the close-knit community. We have seen the area change and grow and also have
bared witness to the risks associated with such a rural environment, namely the risk of fire
which resulted in my family being evacuated twice. In both situations the only two
emergency exit routes (underscoring that there is literally two ways out of the area)
via Weir Canyon/Serrano and Santa Ana Canyon literally at a stand-still with cars bumper
to bumper trying to flee. I had to drive over a median which was on fire to get my family to
safety.
Over the last 15 years I have witnessed first hand the continuous growth in traffic traveling
on the 91 freeway as new home development in the Corona/Inland Empire coupled with
job growth in Orange County has led to more and more people using this freeway and the
toll road for their daily commutes. This has not only impacted the freeways but the
surrounding streets including most notably Santa Ana Canyon which runs parallel to the
91 and is used by hundreds if not thousands of commuters as a means to try and find a
faster path.
The material increase in commuter traffic that already exists coupled with the proposed development
by SALT is a recipe for a tragedy waiting to happen. It isn't a matter of IF there will be another
fire in our beloved hills but WHEN! LEARN FROM THE TRAGEDIES SEEN ELSEWHERE
IN OUR COUNTRY INCLUDING MOST RECENTLY MAUI— we do not have the
infrastructure and emergency escape options to support this many additional residents.
I and my fellow residents will be watching whether our elected officials support the voice of our
community who are overwhelmingly opposed to this project. Failure to deny the SALT development
requests will result in a unified coalition to replace those who sought short sided economic
interests of a few for the safety and well being of the community.
Please remember you were elected to represent the will of your taxpaying constituents and
ensure our children continue to live in a safe environment.
1
I ASK YOU TO PLEASE DENY THE REZONING/MULTI-FAMILY
DEVELOPMENT REQUEST IN FRONT OF YOU AND PROTECT
THE FAMILIES AND CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY.
