I am wri?ng in strong opposi?on to the proposed development at Deer Canyon in Anaheim Hills.
First and foremost, the proposed ac?ons impede the health and safety of Anaheim residents, which were inappropriately
dismissed by the majority of the planning commission, who do not reside near the proposed development and who even
made remarks during their recent mee?ng that it is ?me for the people of Anaheim Hills to also bear the burden of
development, as other residents in Anaheim have had to do.
Unfortunately these type of comments fail to recognize that the proposed development is an area that has and con?nues
to have a history of natural fire hazards, unlike other areas of Anaheim. No other residents of Anaheim have had to flee
their homes during wildfires only to be faced with gridlocked traffic as they try to escape to safety. The proposed
development will make this type situa?on even more precarious, significantly increasing evacua?on ?mes during a
wildfire, and poten?ally cause catastrophic loss of life.
We get it. Traffic and development is a fact of life throughout the city and Anaheim Hills should not and is not exempt
from this. Our streets already experience major gridlock as commuters try to find alterna?ves to the 91 freeway. Each
area of the city has different nuances, however, and the wildfire dangers in Anaheim Hills are unique and should not be
ignored or pushed aside to accommodate this development.
The fire department and police department both recommend against this development for a reason. Unfortunately most
of the planning commission comprised of individuals vested in the needs of cons?tuents who do not reside in Anaheim
Hills failed to heed the recommenda?ons of these experts.
The City Council has a moral and legal obliga?on to its residents to do be?er than the planning commission. Surely you
do not want to be negligent in going against the recommenda?ons of the experts in the Fire and Police departments and
risk the health, safety, and poten?ally lives of Anaheim residents?
Sincerely,
Naomi Goodwin
