Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and are expecting the message. My name is Bridget Winger. My family and I live near Anaheim Hills Elementary. I’m opposed to the Deer Canyon development, and any other large-scale development until we can solve the evacuation problems. I watched the meeting regarding the Know Your Way campaign, and found the plan is severely incomplete. It has good intentions but falls short on details like, evacuating students, elderly, and pets, among other issues. It is a simplified view of fire evacuation that doesn’t bother to include the input of the residents most impacted by it. Speaking from personal experience both fire and people are unpredictable. This plan will remain “a nice idea” until it is used in a real-life scenario. They said the plan had been in place for years, but to this day we have never received any official communication about it. We don’t even know what our area’s evacuation number is. The city planning commission failed to scrutinize the plan during that meeting, whether through ineptitude or willful ignorance. Unfortunately, that same planning commission relied heavily on that plan when they greenlit the Deer Canyon development. They also relied on the flawed Environmental Impact Report that claimed the increase to fire evacuation times was insignificant. If you’re looking at percentages on paper 13% more time might sound numerically small. HOWEVER, the biggest issue is the 3-hour evacuation time to begin with! On no planet is that remotely acceptable and adding an additional 24 minutes during a life & death situation is UNACCEPTABLE. I have personally sat in that 3-hour traffic wondering what my next steps would be if the wind changed course and headed toward me and my daughter, trapped in a car! You need to solve the evacuation issue first before adding to the problem. Thank you for your time. Bridget Winger Anaheim Hills resident 1
