City Council Members:
I am writing to express my serious concerns about the Deer Canyon project. As a long time resident,
I’ve experienced fire evacuations where our only exit was severely congested, transforming a few-
minute drive into a terrifying hour-and-a-half ordeal. Even getting your kids from school becomes a
herculean effort. The fear of being unable to ensure loved ones’ safety during a wildfire is
indescribable.
Most importantly, Santa Ana Canyon Road near Deer Canyon does not meet current fire code
standards even for the existing population. Adding more residents without addressing this deficiency
risks overwhelming our evacuation routes and jeopardizing lives. Last year’s tragedy in Lahaina
illustrates the stakes all too clearly.
For the safety of our community, I urge you to decline the Deer Canyon project.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jeff Flores
