To Anaheim City Officials, I’m writing to express my grave concerns over the Deer Canyon development project. Please see my concerns below Concern #1 - Traffic Congestion:  I still remember the nightmare of being evacuated in 2017. Adding more cars to Santa Ana Canyon Road, the connector to the entire Anaheim Hills community, is going to make it so much worse. We live in an area where wildfires are very real risks. This should be considered as the number 1 factor why this project should have never been approved by the council.  I am not sure when the traffic study was completed. I assumed they did not use rush hour traffic to consider the impact. The Weir Canyon highway exit causes terrible traffic during rush hours, especially evening rush hours on both Santa Ana Canyon and Weir Canyon, with Friday being the worst! It often takes 20 minutes to get through 1-2 blocks of traffic. The thought of adding 1 thousand cars to that made me feel very frustrated. The draw of Anaheim Hills is to have relatively easy time getting around, with low crime and that brings to my concern #2. Concern #2 - Impact on Quality of Life (potentially, property values):  I enjoy living in this area because of the good quality of life. Getting around the hills and the neighborhood is easy. For example, picking something up from Target, I can get home in 30 minutes. Now, adding all these new people to the area, it would be double the time to get there, and the stores are going to be busy. I know I am not the only one that appreciates the convenience of shopping in this neighborhood. Additionally, rush hours are the only times many of us working professionals could run errands. With the traffic jams mentioned above, adding commuting time to that just adds one more item to decrease the quality of life in Anaheim Hills. Finally, by adding these apartments with people who come and go, you don't build community, but create problems. I am sure this will be another factor that will bring down property values for the area. Overall, as a resident of Anaheim Hills, I really do not see the upside of having these new developments. I am not sure who benefits from these projects but sounded like not the residents of 1 Anaheim Hills. I urge you as city officials, who are here to serve the residents of City of Anaheim to do the right thing for the residents and not just the businesses, especially developers from out of state.
