To Anaheim City, I am writing to express my profound concern regarding the potential development of Deer Canyon. It is alarming that the risks associated with fire and necessary evacuation plans are being overlooked or altered, compromising our safety, in order to satisfy the developer. This approach is utterly irresponsible. Residents of Anaheim are urging our city to take heed of the lessons learned from previous fire threats and unsuccessful evacuations, as well as the warnings issued by our own fire and police departments, which have voiced apprehensions about this project. Having been a victim of the last evacuation in Anaheim Hills, I can attest that had the fire not changed direction, we would have been forced to abandon our vehicles and flee from the flames. This proposed development is unsuitable for a high fire risk area. The introduction of high-density housing in our community is inappropriate. The new fire strategy of sheltering in place is unreasonable and unlikely to be effective. Our objections to this development are not rooted in NIMBYism; rather, they stem from the impracticality of increasing density in a high-risk zone. Currently, safe evacuation is not feasible for the existing residents, and it would be reckless to add more density until this issue is adequately addressed. Teresa Ploum Anaheim, CA 92808 1
