Good day City Council Members and Manager,
I strongly urge you to vote to NOT allow the Deer Canyon Development to proceed as planned. I generally
believe property owners' rights should be considered for use of their land, but this group knew zoning
laws when they purchased the property. They are now pushing for a change to those existing zoning laws.
Those changes will negatively affect all residents of this area, but even more greatly their immediate
neighbors and their rights.
This development will not have a positive impact on our Canyon area. Our current Deer Canyon Preserve
and wildlife will be greatly threatened. Through the years we have encroached on the land in this area
greatly and the animals have suffered. Many of their populations have been diminished and many others
no longer exist in this area. This development would further diminish open space for them and for current
residents. Our schools will also be impacted by the Deer Canyon Project. The increased number of
residents will add students that there won't be adequate space and teachers for. Additionally, traffic will
increase and residents' safety will diminish. In the event of fire, evacuation routes will be impeded and
gridlock will happen. As it is currently, when there is an accident or slowdown on the 91fwy there is
gridlock on Santa Ana Canyon Road and through some of the residential neighborhoods. Safety has
already been and issue for residents who could not leave their driveways because of the traffic created
when Google and Apple Maps reroute drivers to their roads. With the increase in residents that the Deer
Canyon Project will add this will only get worse. The zoning there should not be changed.
The Canyon is not the place for this development. I grew up here and watched the land change from
orchards and rolling hills to the community it is now. Cows and other wildlife roamed freely here. Growth
of course is part of progress and homes and businesses are part of that process, but this area, where the
Deer Canyon Project is trying to build, is one of the few refuges that remain for the animals here and for
those who like to walk the preserves trails and get a glimpse of what the area was like in the past.
When you vote please consider how this large development and its scope will affect the immediate
neighboring area of single family homes, as well as, the larger area of surrounding residents. Please
consider the negative impact it will have on the area's traffic and residents' safety in the event of
evuation. Consider its impact on area schools, wildlife and open space. Consider all the negatives...
