Good morning,
I am writing today as a concerned member of the Anaheim Hills community.
While I love the look of the planned development for Deer Canyon, I do not and cannot support this
project due to safety concerns.
I have lived in Anaheim Hills for almost 30 years and have experienced increasing traffic and over
crowding of cars cutting through the neighborhoods to get around freeway traffic, as well as avoiding
traffic on La Palma and Santa Ana Canyon. Fridays are especially frustrating and dangerous to our kids
that are walking home from school or riding their bikes through the neighborhood.
The parking lot at Canyon High School alone, cannot accommodate the student population it currently
has. On Tuesdays, street sweeping days, there is no place for the overflow of students to go. I know the
project is not “designed” for families, but that is unrealistic to think there will be no additional families
living there.
On a regular basis, trying to quickly pick up kids from school and make it to an appointment is nearly
impossible, in a realistic amount of time. Instead, I have to take my student out of class early or take
them late, to avoid missing extra hours in my own work day as to avoid the additional parking lot traffic as
well as the traffic on local roads from the freeway overflow. This is also resulting in loss of money for the
schools when the students are missing classes.
School traffic aside, my real fear stems from our lack of escape routes in an emergency. Living here
through the evacuations in 2008 and 2017, was very scary. We felt trapped and scared! The
consequences of moving additional housing and cars into an underdeveloped and unprepared
infrastructure is irresponsible and negligible.
Please consider more research and solutions in preparation for emergencies before adding additional
“fuel to the fire.” Please take into account the neighbors that have lived here, in our little community, for
decades. Show us you are a responsible developer and that you are dedicated to having the best interest
in defending us that live here now. We love our community and must feel safe in our homes!
Sincerely,
1
