Dear City of Anaheim, The SALT Project proposed for Anaheim Hills poses a significant threat to our community and its residents. My concerns are deeply rooted in the potential hazards that could arise from such a development, particularly in light of the challenges we faced during the Canyon 2 Fire. During the Canyon 2 Fire, which devastated parts of our region, we witnessed firsthand the critical issues surrounding traffic congestion and evacuation routes. Many residents were caught in gridlock, making it nearly impossible to escape the flames and smoke. Emergency services struggled to navigate the overcrowded roads, delaying vital responses and putting lives at risk. The chaos and confusion during that time highlighted the inadequacy of our current infrastructure to handle emergencies effectively. Given the proposed SALT Project, which would likely increase the local population and traffic volume, I fear we may be setting ourselves up for a repeat of those harrowing experiences. The additional strain on our roads could lead to even greater challenges in evacuation scenarios, leaving families and individuals more vulnerable in times of crisis. Moreover, the environmental impact of increased development cannot be overlooked. The hills and canyons that define our landscape are not only beautiful but also serve as natural firebreaks. Deforestation and urban encroachment could diminish these critical buffers, heightening the risk of wildfires and making the community more susceptible to disaster. In light of these considerations, it is imperative that we advocate for our community's safety and well-being. We must carefully evaluate the implications of the SALT Project and ensure that any development plans prioritize the protection of our residents and the integrity of our environment. Our experiences during the Canyon 2 Fire should serve as a vital lesson in the importance of preparedness and responsible planning for the future. Sincerely, Stephen Moriyama 1
