CENTER ST., ANAHEIM, CA 92805 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT Kristen Maahs, Chair Erika Nguyen, Vice Chair David Zuniga George Serna COMMISSIONERS ABSENT Karen Uyematsu, Alicia Jacinto May 16, 2024 STAFF PRESENT Anaheim Sporn, Community Services Manager Jane Newell, Heritage Services Manager Nikki Sandusky, Community Services Superintendent Art Varela, Community Services Supervisor Barbara Leggett, Senior Secretary VISITORS None AGENDA ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Maahs called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Led by Commissioner Zuniga. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. SCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Chair Maahs presented the April 30, 2024, minutes. Vice Chair Nguyen made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Zuniga. Chair Maahs accepted the minutes. 6. SUB -COMMITTEES: a) Center Gallery: Community Services Supervisor Art Valera reported that Jeff Petsche, the artist, plans to donate 10% of all proceeds from his ongoing exhibit which will end on June 2, 2024. The next exhibit will feature works by the Anaheim Arts Association with a reception on June 6, 2024. Once completed, invitations will be emailed. b) Public Art Program: Community Services Manager Anaheim Sporn provided an update on the Public Art Program. Her presentation covered details on Public Art Guidelines and streamlining of the mural permitting process. These items are set to be taken to the City Council meeting scheduled for May 21sc c) Heritage: Heritage Services Manager Jane Newell reported that Founders' Park school tours are winding down and will be working on some summer projects. d) Poet Laureate: Community Services Manager Anaheim Sporn gave an update that a meeting is scheduled with the City's Communications Manager Mike Lyster to create a plan to introduce the Poet Laureate, further details will be presented once confirmed. NEW BUSINESS: a) Chair Maahs shared a presentation on Mission Viejos' Public Art. b) Vice Chair Nguyen spoke on potential funding requests for future projects, she requested to keep Potential funding on the agenda as they explore future Public Art opportunities. Chair Nguyen challenged each commission member to explore Public Art from other cities to discuss at the next meeting. Cultural & Heritage Commission May 16, 2024 Page 2 8. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Community Services Supervisor Art Varela reminded the group of the upcoming Children's Festival on May 18th. 9. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Maahs adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held off -site at the Mother Colony House 400 N. West St., Anaheim, CA 92801 on June 20, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
