CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on September 4, 2024; the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Linda Newby at 4:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Michelle Dang, Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia
ABSENT: Rose Chen
STAFF: Joe Purtell - Library Services Manager, Angelica Sauceda — Library Assistant,
Jennifer Foxx — Management Assistant II,
GUESTS: Reon Boydstun Howard
I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends made $220.40 at
their August book sale and $114.00 from the Angels Game ticket fundraiser. The next book sale
is September 20, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They are in the process of establishing an
account to accept Zelle payments at the book sales. The Friends are looking forward to
celebrating their 60t' anniversary with two celebrations, the first on October 5, 2024, and the
second on October 28, 2024. The Memorial Plaque for the Friends has been installed in the
Book Nook. The Friends donated 41 boxes of used, donated books that they were unable to sell
in their Book Nook to the La Mirada Public Library.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Their next meeting is September 19, 2024,
and the next Flash Sale is scheduled for October 1-2, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. Hours
have been extended so that local students can stop by after school. FOCAL welcomes donations
of Halloween or fall items to be sold at the October sale.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: None.
D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: The Library Board presented Reon Boydstun Howard
with a Library Board Certificate of Recognition for supporting and promoting library programs.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 12, 2024, MEETING: The minutes were approved
as presented.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION OF
THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2023/24 PER ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS
AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908: The Library Board discussed the draft report.

IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. FRIENDS OF ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:
Angelica Sauceda presented plans to celebrate the Friends of Anaheim Public Library's 60th
Anniversary of Incorporation. To honor the Friends the Central Library Children's Garden area
will be renamed to the Friends of Anaheim Public Library Garden with a dedication at the
October 5, 2024, celebration.
B. RECOGNITION FOR ANAHEIM CENTRAL LIBRARY FRIENDS GREENSPACE
GARDEN: Joe Purtell acknowledged the individuals and the T.E. Roberts, Inc. company that
donated their time and supplies valued at over $14,000 to the renovation of the Central Library
Greenspace Garden.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• The OC Zine Fest was held at Central Library on September 7, 2024. The event drew a
crowd of thousands and featured over 100 vendors.
B. BUDGET: None.
VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. STATISTICS: None.
B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The
Board recognized Tim Cho, Public Works Department, Rigo Perez, Community Services
Department, and T.E. Roberts Company (Tim Roberts, Joshua Solario, and crew), for their
contributions of time and materials to the Central Library Greenspace. The Library Board will
begin using an alternative process to recognize Anaheim Public Library staff instead of the
monthly recognition certificates.
VII. BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Enjoys bringing her children to the cooking programs at the
Sunkist Branch Library.
MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: None.
MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: Will invite Master Gardner Victoria Michaels to the next Library
Board Meeting to present her with a Library Board Certificate of Recognition.

CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Loved seeing the pictures of the Reading with the Dogs and Firefighter
Storytimes in the Library Board Reports.

A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be October 14, 2024, at a location to be determined.
B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Newby adjourned the meeting at 5:15 p.m.
