AGENDA ACTION TAKEN
1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Brown called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Brown led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Brown presented the minutes of the April 18, 2024, meeting.
Commissioner Brio made a motion for approval of the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Noteboom.
The minutes were approved unanimously.
4. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
5. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: Chair Brown thanked Maureen Richardson for asking her staff to
come to meet the commissioners and asked her to introduce them. Maureen noted that two Senior
Recreation Leaders are busy at sites right now but asked the rest of the staff to introduce themselves.
Jason Ortuno, Senior Program Specialist at Ponderosa Park Family Resource Center; Samantha
Medina, Senior Program Specialist at the Downtown Senior Center; Pamela Punzalan, Senior Program
Specialist at Brookhurst Community Center; Nayeli Carrillo, Senior Program Specialist at West
Anaheim Youth Center; Abril Petlacalco-Castillo, Senior Program Specialist at East Anaheim
Community Center; Alan Lopez-Pizano, Senior Program Specialist at Miraloma Family Resource
Center; Christine Hunt, Community Services Coordinator at East Anaheim Community Center;
Veronica Izquierdo, Community Services Coordinator at Brookhurst Community Center; Crystal Peralta,
Community Services Coordinator at Downtown Senior Center introduced themselves to the
commission. Chair Brown thanked everyone for coming to meet the commission.
6. NEW BUSINESS:
a. Age Well Anaheim — Chair Brown noted that his name came from the talk about Blue Zones and
Aging. She suggested the City at some point put together a small magazine to be published during
Older Adult Month with information for older adults. Commissioner Beas suggested sending
something out in the Utility Bill the month prior to that. Chair Brown also suggested having them
available in all the community/family resource centers. Maureen Richardson stated that they are in
the process of putting together a folded brochure with bullet points about Older Adult programs, as
well as a color insert to be included in a future activity guide.

7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a. Orange County Community Services — Office on Aging Presentation Opportunity — Commissioner
Brio reported that he, Brian Chwan and Maureen Richardson had a Zoom meeting with Marco
Rodriguez, Program Manager for Orange County Community Services Office on Aging, where they
discussed what the content of the presentation would be. Marco suggested they could do a
presentation on classes they offer on balance, diabetes self -management care, and chronic disease
self -management, then distribute the files of life and give instructions on completing them. They
discussed holding the presentations at the three areas of the city, and Maureen suggested
attracting them with food, either lunch or some coffee and breakfast items.
b. Commission Name Change Proposal — Commissioner Noteboom noted they are waiting for the
results of the survey; Brian Chwan confirmed that.
c. Anaheim Senior Citizen Strategic Plan — Maureen Richardson stated they will have more
information on the survey closer to the fall.
8. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:
a. Needs Assessment Update — Brian Chwan stated there was a good response to the surveys and
they are currently in focus groups with stakeholders, community members and key residents who
are involved in the process. From there, the consultant will compile the information and formulate
their report. He again thanked the commissioners for their efforts to get surveys completed.
b. Blue Zones, Aging & Longevity — Maureen Richardson reported there is a research project ongoing
to study the genetics of super-agers 95 years old and their families.
c. Commissioner Beas reported that "Doctor on Demand" provides grief therapy, other therapy and
doctors through Zoom, and it is covered by some Medicare programs.
d. Commissioner Noteboom suggested commissioners attend the 4t" of July Celebration at Peralta
Park and help with booth for the dog show.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Brown adjourned the meeting at 2:29 p.m.
