AGENDA ACTION TAKEN
1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Brown called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chair Brown led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Brown presented the minutes of the June 20, 2024, meeting.
Commissioner Noteboom made a motion for approval of the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Brio.
The minutes were approved unanimously.
4. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
5. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION:
a. Silver Companions Program — Lisa Mandad, Program Coordinator for Silver Companions Program
of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) presented information on the program and answered
questions from the commissioners.
b. AltaMed PACE Program — Jorge Gavino, Civic Engagement Specialist, gave an overview of the
PACE Program, which is an alternative to nursing homes for adults 55 and older on Medicare, and
answered questions from the commissioners.
6. ELECTION OF CHAIR/VICE-CHAIR:
a. Brian Chwan asked for a nomination for Chair for the next year. Commissioner Brio asked whether
Chair Brown and Vice -Chair Barnes would be willing to continue in their current positions. Chair
Brown mentioned that her term will be ending in December after the elections, but she plans to
continue to attend to report on any Federal issues that impact older adults. Beth Lapkowski noted
that it normally takes time to appoint new commissioners, and they are asked to continue serving
until their replacements are appointed; Chair Brown agreed. Commissioner Noteboom made a
motion for Chair Brown to continue to serve, seconded by Vice -Chair Barnes; vote was unanimous.
Brian Chwan asked Vice -Chair Barnes if she would like to continue as vice -chair, and she agreed.
Commissioner Brio made a motion for Vice -Chair Barnes to continue as vice -chair, seconded by
Commissioner Noteboom; vote was unanimous.
7. NEW BUSINESS:
a. Veteran's Cemetery Appreciation — Commissioner Real shared an article in the Anaheim Bulletin
about the City Council approval of the Veteran's Cemetery. Commissioner Noteboom reported that

the permits have been approved but they won't begin construction until 2027. Chair Brown asked if
the commission could get an update on the project.
b. Orange County Office on Aging presentation —Commissioner Brio asked for an update on the
presentations, and Maureen Richardson reported that pending any changes, the dates are:
Downtown Anaheim Community Center on October 2nd at 10:00 a.m.; Brookhurst Community
Center on October 101" at 10:00 a.m.; and October 71" at 10:00 a.m. at the East Anaheim
Community Center. Chair Brown asked if Commissioner Brio would be willing to go to a City
Council meeting and report during public comment about the presentation dates and locations; he
will be happy to do so.
c. Bilingual Website update — Commissioner Brio reported that the City website has a translation
button that will change the information on the website to many different languages.
8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a. Commission Name Change Proposal — Brian Chwan noted that as was previously discussed, this is
pending the results of the Strategic Plan.
b. Anaheim Senior Citizen Strategic Plan — Brian Chwan noted this is also not ready for discussion at
this time.
9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:
a. ACF Needs Assessment Update — Brian Chwan reported that the commissioners will be receiving
an invitation, if they have not already, for the Needs Assessment Results Forum which will be held
on Wednesday, September 18, from 1:30 p.m. — 3:45 p.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center.
b. Blue Zones, Aging & Longevity — Commissioner Real reported several Blue Zone habits to practice
that came from someone who visited Costa Rica. Chair Brown reported that the City of Loma Linda
has had negative affected fiscal impacts because of changes they made to be a Blue Zone; they
may need to make changes such as allowing fast food restaurants to bring sales tax to the city.
c. Senior Center Signage & Thank You — Brian Chwan thanked Maureen for her work on the project
and the commissioners for driving the project. The signage looks great, and they will continue
working on the monument project.
d. Chair Brown thanked Maureen and her staff for putting on a wonderful Caregiver Resource Fair on
Saturday; it ran very smoothly.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Brown adjourned the meeting at 3:08 p.m.
